Possible new defensive coordinator if Jerry fires Eberflus

Those DCs are in their positions now to be HCs in the future. The next DC will be either a current position coach, failing HC or DC from another team, or a college coach.
This is true 95% of the time.......mostly coz DC's can't lateral to another DC position w/o an expiring contract. But you are right, most DCs were fired from other teams as a DC or HC. Hell, if we are being honest, ALL coaches have been fired at least once. (lol)

The defense is bad because of 1 person - Jerry Jones. Folks were so gung-ho about getting rid of Parsons that you never paused and thought about what that would do to the defense. Like ripping out the motor of a car and wondering why the damn thing won't run. Much of what Dallas did in the front was predicated by the presence of a Parsons who commanded those double teams. Which made life easier for the Sam Williams of the world to feast as well because while guys like that have talent they are not good enough to do it without that big presence taking on those doubles. The Pass rush also meant more opportunities to play badly thrown balls that made the secondary and LB-ing guys look good. It also meant playing more man and less zone.

Now is this to say that Parsons would fix everything - probably not. But you can't ignore that where this team struggled against the run it held up reasonably well against the pass. Well now you have a team that does not play the run well nor the pass. So the GM basically got rid of a guy, and the defense got worse not better.

Now folks are clamoring for Myles Garrett to come save this thing. The same Myles Garrett who has a no trade clause in his contract. Pray tell, why the hell would he want to come here to be a part of this circus as opposed to go to Philly or some other team that gives him a shot at a SB?

Lastly, I get the appeal of wanting to fire Eberflus. It's an easy thing to do and it will make some of you feel better temporarily. But no one is going to be able to come in and fix anything this season. The defense is fundamentally broken and that is that. You need an entire rebuild starting with the defensive line, LB-ers and secondary. To that effect you will need to stockpile picks and do it. Hell fire Eberfuls after the last game and get a different DC and then empower that guy to actually implement what he wants with the talent that he needs. Not bargain basement shopping and handing the DC guys who are coming off catastrophic injuries or dudes who are long in the tooth. And if you struggle at drafting defense for crying out loud consult some of the defensive minded coaches about it.
Yep, Jerry hate's D_______ . No incorrect answer.

It's early, but here are 6 names I can see Jerry considering .......... familiarity and/or strong postseason experience are huge factors IMO.

*** Al Harris.....Defensive passing coordinator/back, Bears... no defensive coordinator experience.

***Brian Flores...Vikings defensive coordinator. Contract expires at the end of the season. He will likely resign with the Vikes IMO. But their season could go south coz they have serious QB issues after IRing Wentz.

Brian Flores' defensive scheme is a complex, aggressive, and versatile system that blends multiple philosophies to confuse offenses, frequently employing heavy blitzes and pressure from unusual alignments. Key elements include "heavy" fronts with extra rushers (six or seven-man pressure), disguised coverage looks (like showing a blitz but dropping players into coverage), and a heavy usage of sub-packages, especially with multiple safeties on the field

***Wink Martindale....Defensive coordinator, Michigan ( one GM called him a blitzing madman). Similar to the former late Eagle DC, Jim Johnson.

Wink Martindale's defensive scheme is known for its aggressive, blitz-heavy approach with heavy use of pre-snap disguise and man coverage. Key features include creating pressure through creative blitz packages, often by overloading one side of the line, and playing a high percentage of man-to-man coverage in the secondary. This requires defensive backs to be able to hold up against receivers one-on-one for extended periods, with the scheme creating a "give and take" where pressure is prioritized over pass coverage, but coverage must be solid when pressure doesn't get there quickly

***Ron Rivera......General Manager with the California Bears. He is a Jim Johnson disciple but runs a zone-based scheme, similar to Eberflus
Ron Rivera's defensive scheme is primarily a zone-based scheme that relies on a four-man front, though he has also used a 3-4 alignment and incorporates elements of man-to-man coverage. It typically features a four-lineman rush with seven players dropping into coverage, with Cover 3 and Quarters zone being frequently used. The scheme prioritizes sound fundamental play and a dominant defensive line, but can be vulnerable to explosive plays due to its reliance on zone looks

*** Leslie Frazier....Seahawks assistant head coach. Tony Dungy disciple who runs a variation of Tampa 2
Leslie Frazier's defensive scheme is primarily a nickel-heavy system that relies on a strong front four to generate pressure, while the back seven plays mostly zone coverage, though it has the ability to blitz and play man. Key elements include utilizing five or more defensive backs frequently, particularly a versatile slot corner, and a tendency for aggressive pre-snap looks and post-snap adjustments (audibles and checks)

*** Jim Schwartz...Browns' defensive coordinator. He may or may not be available, but he has a history of quickly turning around bad defenses, similar to Wade Phillips.

Jim Schwartz's defensive scheme is a traditional 4-3 base with a "wide-9" alignment that uses aggressive, man-heavy coverage and aims to create pressure with its front seven. Key elements include using stunts and twists from the defensive line, playing aggressive man-to-man coverage in the secondary, and a focus on stopping the run. This approach is designed to be relatively simple pre-snap to confuse offenses and allows his elite defensive linemen to create pressure and his defensive backs to play tightly on receivers

Jim Schwartz is a highly regarded defensive coordinator and was very effective with the Eagles. Eagles consistently had a top-5 run defense and pass rush that consistently overachieved relative to injuries they had at defensive tackle\

Note; He signed with the Browns before 2023 but nothing was released about his contract. Generally speaking, the standard is that coordinators usually sign 3-year deals while head coaches sign 5. This could mean he's in the final year of his contract. He could also be fired along with the head coach......The Browns are headed for another top 5 draft pick.

Note II: Not sure if you heard but Garrett was ticked off after losing Sunday, although he had 5 sacks. Say he's tired of losing. (Could he demand a trade after the season..... something to keep an eye on)

Likely go with one of the def position coaches.

Curtis or Sorensen.

They just need the defense to be average.

Mix man and zone coverage instead of zone every play.

The gap control has been terrible also.

6, maybe 7 high draft picks to build his defense
* plenty of cap space to bring in a couple of free agents
* top 5 offense
* Dak as an established top 10 QB
* could improve the D rankings from the bottom to the middle within 1-2 years, improving his chances for HC consideration.
1. 6 maybe 7 high draft picks but there is no guarantee that Jerry is going to use any of it on defense. The trend has been to use high draft picks on offense and relegate defensive talent to the later round picks also this team struggles to draft defense and largely talent we have gotten has been purely blind luck

2. This team builds via the draft. Any quality free agent (the few that will be available) won't be considered by this team. Instead we will look for bargain basement guys who are coming off horrific injuries or can play maybe one more contract?

3. Top 5 offense that is based on inflated sats of beating up bad teams. Against solid opponents they crumble

4. A lot of what this team can and cannot do is directly influenced by the fact that Dak Prescott's contract is a true albatross.

5. But this then puts Dallas in a bind, DC for what 2 years maybe if things go well and then gone to be replaced by some other retread who is going to implement his own defensive scheme.

Let's revisit this after the season.......bookmarked!

No hes not. He's literally the opposite of Ryan. He runs the stupid outdated Tampa 2/Maranelli defense.
Go back and read what I posted again and compare it to what you think I said . IT'S NOT THE SAME.

What I posted are FACTS. Google it if you don't believe me.

So what do you suggest, Mr. CooterBrown....lol
There is no solution. This team will never hoist a Lombardi trophy until after Jerry Jones is gone. I've been a fan since 1964 and I'll still watch the games, but I'll do so with no hope or expectation of a Super Bowl.

Would love to have Al Harris ........ but he is probably done with Jerry's BS.

Jerry…you don’t have to fire Eber yet.

Put him up in the sky box.

No more play calling.

Let Sorensen take over the game day play calling.

Fixed.

No, we need a fresh start.
Entire DEF coaching staff needs to go at end of season.

This is what Eberflus came into.

Eberflus will arrive to a team headlined by All-Pro rusher Micah Parsons, with the likes of Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and DeMarvion Overshown also existing as either proven or ascending talents.

Micah traded for future picks.

Diggs injured.

Overshown injured.

How is this on DC???

Rusty ...I would stand on the table, Schwartz. He has had an immediate impact/improvement at every stop, according to the little digging and research I did. My only concern is that he can be a jerk....... tends to rub some the wrong or not everyone's cup of tea, similar to Rex Ryan.

Well, I think maybe it's time the players on defence have to play for a jerk. They need that edge.

At this point, when you have the worst Defense in NFL history, I think my dog could have a positive impact and I don't have a dog.

Did you see the graphic or thread with several FORMER Cowboy players now starting for other teams. Some are doing really well.......what does that tell ya? Mind you, it's not one or two but several.
Yes I seen that, and I can't even become jealous of the players doing better with other teams, because I know they still wouldn't play that good even if they came back.

I tell fellow fans this all the time that its better coaches and scheme of why those players are now better. Coming back to Dallas wouldn't make a difference.
