The Press Gazette reports the Green Bay Packers have released DL Donnell Washington, HC Mike McCarthy announced Friday following the team’s practice. Washington (6-6, 328) was a third-round draft pick of the Packers in 2004. He was held out of the Packers’ first mandatory mini-camp in early May because he was out of shape. McCarthy on Friday said the team wanted to move in another direction.

Wouldnt mind taking a look at this guy for some more competition behind Ferg.
With Montavious and Washington, there would be some nice comp in TC. At 6'6" 328lbs he definetly has the size to move to the nose.

Out of SHAPE translates into FAT and OVERWIGHT in my book... :stop:

Doesn't sound like a player that Bill "Jenny Craig" :cop2:parcells would want...:thumbdo:

Out of shape often translates to not being motivated or dedicated, on that I will agree, but name me one NT in this league that isnt fat.
Thats what the Ted Wahingtons of the league have to be for the posistion,,
BTCFD.... a big trash can full of dirt.

I've heard reports recently that the Packers and Buffalo Bills have had the worst off-season workouts of all the teams in the league. I'm talking about players off-season workout programs and the amount of players participating.
Maybe McCarthy is cleaning house with a move like this.

And what do both teams have in common -- both are located in the cold north and in cities which have little to recommend themselves. As a result, most Packer & Bill players live elsewhere offseason--only returning to team locations when necessary. Apologies to any board member who from either Buffalo or Green Bay.

6'6" might be a tad too tall for a NT. The guy would really have to know how to play with leverage. He'd really have to be special.

You really want a short guy- 6'2" or under- for NT. That was one of the reasons FIFITA looked promising- 5'11" and 320 and strong as an ox. Word is that he looked good at NT for the Dolphins at their mini camp.

If this player could not stay in shape for the Packers, what makes us believe he will do it for the Star?

go sell fat and lazy NT's somewhere else, we're all stocked up here...

we have Fergi and Stanley as our rotation for primary 3-4 NTs, that's about as many as we can carry....because we also have Ratliff and Pepper J who are rotational DTs in the 4 man fronts

DL: Fergi, Canty, Spears (starters), Ratliff, Coleman, and Pepper J to split time at 3 full-time positions + 1 part-time position. Ellis and Ware will also be added to that mix in the 4 man fronts. I think we're full along the DL.

Don't forget we got Jason Hatcher who will see some rotational time at DE.

Also, we just signed Samuel Taulealea from NFLE to try out for NT as well.

I'd rather try to develop our own NTs, i.e. Thomas Johnson & Montavious Stanley, behind Ferguson. And isn't 6-6 a tad too tall for a NT? Sounds like a better fit as a DT in a 4-3.....
