CHARGERS CUT PARKER

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 23, 2008, 2:22 p.m.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the San Diego Chargers have released wide receiver Eric Parker.

Parker started 12 games for the Chargers in 2006 and caught 48 passes for 659 yards, but in 2007 he missed the entire season with a toe injury. The Chargers had indicated that they were not planning to bring him back this season, so it’s no surprise that he was released just before veterans are to report for training camp.

The 29-year-old Parker, who has spent his entire six-year career in San Diego, still wants to play somewhere this season. There has been speculation that the Browns could be interested in acquiring Parker, although it’s unlikely that any team would give him the $1.85 million salary he would have been due this season with the Chargers.

I don't know much about him, is he a speed guy? This may also help TG sign that split contract too, cause he knows WP ties to the Chargers and we could possibly bring Parker here. I'm sure he'd luv to come and play on this offense.. Just saying!!!

If he has a toe injury how would he be a solution?

But he had the toe injury last season, right? Is it still bothering him? Does anybody know anything about this guy? I'm still wondering if he's a speed guy or not..

I don't think it's a career-threatening, degenerative toe condition but I can't be sure.....

He wouldn't be in 'Terry Glenn's league' even if he started all 16 games last season.

The point is that Terry Glenn is no longer in Terry Glenn's league either.

Terry Glenn at 75-80% is better than Parker at any %

He's an ok player. Probably similar to Crayton.

That is a crazy comparision. Parker is the anti-Crayton. Parker is fast, has hands of stone & keeps his mouth shut.

Teams will not have to pay that base salary if they wait for him to clear waivers. If he clears waivers then any team can negotiate with him as a free agent. Why does the media mess that up so often?

It sounds to me like that toe injury he had from last injury was not only serious, but he may not be 100%.

No thanks

If Glenn doesn't sign and Parker is 100%, he would be a decent pickup even at $1.85 million.
