He would be a great DC and knows this scheme. Telling you guys this defense is going to be set up for Lovie smith as HC

No thanks to Lovie Smith. If he was the only option, I'll stick with the coaching tandem of Coach Jones and Coach Garrett.

I hear you, bro. I am just not a fan of Lovie Smith.

I'm not either but just saying the defense is built for him now. Every coach has a relationship with Lovie Smith except Henderson who will probably leave this offseason. Even Lovie's own son is a coach here. Mikel Smith is the nickel back coach.

Frazier is a great secondary coach and coaches the Tampa 2 scheme since his days in Indy under Dungy who was over Lovie in Tampa. Frazier and Smith are close friends. Just makes to much sense. I don't think Smith would come back as a DC.

The defensive personnel is terrible.. There is a need at every spot.. We need a pass rusher, we need a DT, we need a safety, we need an outside linebacker, and we need corners. The roster we roll out with next year will have a much bigger effect on whether or not the defense improves than who we get to coordinate the defense

I agree with this. He will get a head coaching job someplace. If not, he'll wait another year. My vote is still for Ken Whisenhunt...but again, unfortunately, I think JG is safe for another year.

I want Ken Norton off the Seattle staff and in Dallas. He is on the brink of becoming a great DC.

I'd like to play a scheme similar to Seattle's too...especially if we had Seattle's talent.

I don't think that's true at all. We were firmly married to the 3-4 until this summer.

I don't know if it's even possible now, but the one guy I've always wanted Dallas to hire was Ray Horton.

Solid coordinator, popular with the players, ties to the organization...

Which is fine, but why go out and hire the architect of the once vaunted Tampa 2 defense if the end product the organization desires couldn't be further from it? Seattle relies on big, physical corners to play man defense and combines elements of both the 3-4 and 4-3 in their front seven. The success or failure of their scheme isn't predicated on having an elite interior passrusher ala Kiffin's defense. A smarter move would have been, and still would be, to go out and hire one of the more senior defensive assistants off of Seattle's staff.

Hiring Kiffin to install Seattle's defense is like asking an electrician to upgrade your plumbing. Then again, it is Jerry we're talking about.

Pete Carroll has credited Kiffin as one of his biggest influences.

Carroll was a graduated assistant at Arkansas when Kiffin was the DC in 1977.
Carroll's first DC job was at NC State with Kiffin as the Head Coach.
They were both on the defensive staff with the Vikings from 86 to 89.
They were both on the defensive staff with the Jets in 1990.

Are we firmly married to it? It sounds like in the eyes of many this is a foregone conclusion, however we've only run the Tampa-2 for a single season, none of our CBs really excel in off coverage, and our best DL is poised to become a 32 year old unrestricted free agent. DeMarcus Ware was never a great fit for the scheme and none of our safeties will be confused for John Lynch either.

It seems to me we could (and probably should) change schemes.

I mean, we still have Matt Johnson
