I'm tired and pretty PO'd right now so probably more to come tomorrow:

1) 1st team OL for the most part was just putrid...looked like they have never practiced vs a blitz...run and pass blocking was bad, though it did improve when Al Johnson and Tyson Walter were replaced by Gurode and Noll

2) the special teams from Bruce DeHaven is just garbage...its gone from average to bad to putrid in his 3 seasons...Cortez was booming kickoffs high and deep into the endzone and they were still getting to the 30+ everytime...punt coverage is average at best and oure returns basically stink...we will lose a game or two at least because of how poor we are on special teams

3) memo to Parcells, DeMarcus Ware has no business being a blocker on the punt return team...the guy is pobably the single most important key to the defense being better, perhaps even very good in 2005...nothing GOOD can possibly become of having your best pass rusher running 40-50 yds backwards trying to block people...ONLY BAD CRAP CAN HAPPEN, and almost did tonight when he suffered what turned out to be a (hopefully) minor knee injury...BP, you sir are a total boob for putting him out there...further, BP spent all last yr and offseason poor mouthing about the loss of Dan Campbell and about how he was so key to the offense, yet there was Campbell with 3 minutes to go in a meaningless preseason game run blocking in the redzone

4) memo again to BP, when you have no timeouts left in a half and are in chip shot FG range, you call a play with your last snap that GOES INTO (or out of) THE ENDZONE, that way you save ample time to get the fg team on...seems like elementary stuff, but apparently you dont get it

5) Bruce DeHaven and Tony Sporano were horrendous hires by Parcells

6) 1st team offense (minus JJ) played two series vs the Houston backups to start the 3rd qtr, and not only didnt score...they failed to net even one first down

7) Drew Bledsoe would be fine at QB if he can consistently get even average pass protection..he looked good tonight despite mostly bad pass protection...Tony Romo got all the snaps after Bledsoe left and played well...made a great throw to Crayton...undone by another horrible drop by Q Morgan in the redzone, though he did come back to make a nice TD on a short throw from Romo..still, no excuses for the other redzone drops he's had...those were easy plays

8) Patrick Crayton is really looking solid, he's a real playmaker and needs to be on the field in more than just 3 WR sets

9) not sure why anyone thought Chris Canty was taking Greg Ellis' job...I've seen every snap Canty's been on the field in preseason and he still has yet to make a play..appears to be adequate vs the run but is non existant as a pass rusher

10) if this team can somehow score 350 pts this yr, they'll win 10 or 11 games...problem is it doesnt appear there is virtually any chance of scoring that many pts...the OL is just horrible right now

thats all for now

Well considering he didn't game plan and the Texans DID gameplan, I'd say they did pretty good.

The only thing I really didn't like was our run defense, but we were w/o Ferguson (again) so that's a big part of it.

some people just cannot stand to be happy ever. I am enthusiastic after tonight. I saw alot more than I expected. I saw and offense that worked well when given time to get some rhythm. I saw a back up QB who was sharp and made great reads and throws. Things are looking up for this season.

He has a valid point although I think that frustration can be tempered when you put in perspective we might have started the game without 2/5 of our starting OL. Riveria and Gurode and we still have yet to see what kinda difference Fergy and Spears will make. I'm convinced Ware and Burnett will be special this year.

Think you can make a clip of Roy jacking that receiver up? Totally out of place to ask, but why not? Might aswell ask while your optimisc, lol.

I shoot me for this post, but I agree with Calico. I saw some of the same thing tonight that I saw 2 years ago with QC. I'm not trying to start crap, but I actually saw a rhythm the team had with Qc at the helm in pre-season. I predicted we would make the playoffs back then and from what I've seen the last 2 game, I feel we will make it again this year. We will split with Philly this year also.

I agree with you David. The biggest factor in the game tonight was that Houston was worse than us. They were horrible in every phase of the game - minus Reggie Swinton. I also noticed our poor OL play - and that it improved with the substitutions in the second quarter. I know Rivera won't make that much difference. And, yes, special teams were awful.

Needs to improve I agree....I think once Rivera gets healthy and we get Petitti more exp (or Tucker ) then it will improve....but it is indeed a work in progress no questions.

It sucked tonight no question, even worse if you consider the texans had decent returns early only to have them called back because they committed penalties.
However Last season it seemed we did decent on coverage units.

I could not see this game so I have to rely on those that did....Cortez's kickoffs may have been decent in length....how was the hang time on them anyone?

3) memo to Parcells, DeMarcus Ware has no business being a blocker on the punt return team

Agree 100%
Not only is Ware learning the OLB in the 3-4 he is also trying to learn the 4-3 in the pros as well....so even if you take away the threat of injuries on coverage teams, he just has enough on his plate right now being a rook, learning the 3-4.

4) memo again to BP, when you have no timeouts left in a half and are in chip shot FG range, you call a play with your last snap that GOES INTO (or out of) THE ENDZONE, that way you save ample time to get the fg team on...seems like elementary stuff, but apparently you dont get it

I could be wrong but three things to take into consideration.
It would appear from what I heard from the announcers during the game that one of the timeouts should not have been taken as they said something about bill giving QB a nasty look after the Time Out.
Also not sure if Bill did the decision on that particular call but from what I heard Sean P was making the offensive play calling.
Now if bill WAS making the call the announcers were talking about how bill had been practicing similar scenarios in practice of seeing how fast the FG team could get out there under pressure.

But no matter the circumstances I agree throw it in the endzone or throw it out of bounds.

5) Bruce DeHaven and Tony Sporano were horrendous hires by Parcells

Seems the coverage units were ok last year and I will wait until Rivera is healthy and see who and how the RT pans out before I judge them.

8) Patrick Crayton is really looking solid, he's a real playmaker and needs to be on the field in more than just 3 WR sets

He will get his chance when Terry gets injured...I do not think it is just coincidence that he is playing Terry's position.

Exactly Calico!

No offense to you David but come on. Do you ever see anything positive? We didnt play terrible tonight. I saw some pretty good play to be honest. Ready for SD? Ill take that bet right now. This D is going to give Breese FITS.

You are not going to get perfection this year bro. Aint gonna happen. Im happy w/ what I saw tonight from the O and from the D. The ST on the other hand was poo. =)

If it was regular season I would join you in the PO'd department. I'm sure it was a trial run which is what pre-season is for. They really didn't look all that bad especially since we had two whole days to prepare. Houston has owned us for the last couple of years. Happy to beat them and take that as improvement.

Everyone was all upset about the kickoff coverage last preseason too, and then the Cowboys had one of the best coverage units in the NFL.

It doesn't seem to dawn on some people that the coverage units in preseason are composed of guys who won't make the team.
