Post Week 14 (2025): QB Combined Statistical Ranking

You must just be having a bad day.
I'm not even sure what you're talking about here....you just sound...angry

Its NOT misleading at all. It correlates almost exactly to the league MVPs every year. or at least 22 of last 23. I'd say that matches "who is playing well that year"

In fact, every single time Manning or Brady won MVP they also finished top 2 in this combined stat.

Why would it get likes from the haters? Dak does really well in this normally...and he's doing pretty well again this year.

Also, this year, Stafford leads by a large margin. He's far from a running QB

Ironically, someone complained earlier in the thread that it gives TOO MUCH credit to passing QBs because it uses pure passer rating then also again includes passing TDs in the 2nd stat
I don’t think that Manning or Brady were rated #1 under the same exact stats. They don’t run the ball. It was probably some other formula and if it was this one, it was not the same. I just don’t believe it. I’m sorry if I came off antagonistic towards you. My bad.

No Worries.

Yes. I've been using the exact same stat for years. Maybe you are onloy looking at the 2nd half of this stat? Even then, total TDs - total turnovers is good all around. Manning had 50 passing TDs one year and very few turnovers. Brady too. Running QBs cant get those totals

Finish in the top 2 (and almost always just the top 1) and you win MVP.

There have been a few years where a player won this combined stat but did not win MVP. Instead, the player that came in 2nd did. But usually it sticks

  • Brady led this stat in 2007 and 2017 and won MVP both times
  • Rodgers led it in 2011, 2014, 2020, 2021...won it all 4 times
  • Manning led it in 2013 and won MVP. Manning was one of the exceptions when he won MVP 2018. Rivers won this combined stat that year
  • Ryan won this combined stat in 2016. Won MVP that year
  • etc

So should the 2 near INTs that went off/through the defender's 2 hands count against him?

If WR errors shouldn't count against him then defenders' errors that otherwise would totally be Dak's fault should count against him.
im guessing incompletions do count against the rating...

This does NOT say which QB is "the best"....ONLY how they have played so far this year.

"Combined Stats" just means using two key stats that --when combined--almost always point to the QBs having the best season (the eventual All-Pros, MVPs, etc)

Those stats are:
1) Standard QB Passer Rating Rank
AND
2) TD-Turnover Differential Rank: Total TDs (Rushing and Passing) - Total Turnovers (Fumbles lost and Interceptions)

Here are the QB Rankings using Combined Stats thru Week 14:
  1. Stafford
  2. Maye
  3. Goff
  4. Allen
  5. Love
  6. Prescott
  7. Hurts
  8. D Jones
  9. Rodgers
  10. Mahomes
  11. Jackson
  12. Darnold
  13. Mayfield
  14. Dart
  15. Herbert
  16. Williams
  17. Brissett
  18. Pennix
  19. M Jones
  20. Nix
  21. Stroud
  22. Young
  23. Lawrence
  24. J Daniels
  25. Murray
  26. Gabriel
  27. Rattler
  28. Tagovailoa
  29. Mariota
  30. Flacco
  31. G Smith
  32. McCarthy
  33. Cousins
  34. Shough
  35. Ward
  36. Wilson
  37. Browning

Excluded due to less than 6 games: Murray, Wentz, Burrow, Purdy, Huntley, Taylor, Pickett, Ewers, Rush, Milton, Dalton, Mills, Sanders, Winston, Brosmer.Leonard, Cooks
The TD:Int ratio is a terrible stat and means nothing with regard to evaluating QB play, as interceptions aren’t always on the QB. #4 was picked last week after having the ball hit the receiver in the chest plate, and he has at least 2 other ints this year that had nothing to do with him. Then there are ints that may as well have been punts. Never understood why people focus at all on ints unless the QB is a turnover machine, something Dak has never been.

While this is true (and im not saying these ratings are end all be all) when dealing with stats and grades, there will always be a "average out" that covers outlier's... example: "Dak had 4 INT's that went off the WR's hands and the league average is 3 per QB so we are ok with that curve" thats pretty normal in these but there will always be outliers... in all of these.

Stafford is going to be tough in the Playoffs. How about Maye stepping up in year 2 to look like the best QB in his class.

Interceptions that defenders dropped tend to balance out those that wentof WRs hands anyway

That door always swings both ways.

Anyone that thinks TDs-Turnovers differencial is not hugely important had never coached football

Expecting Allen to continue his rise this week.

I'd guess he is firmly in the MVP conversation now....maybe even ahead of Maye (but not Stafford)

I'll wait until after the Monday Night game to make the full updates

Well I guess it's that time of year when we either start preparing for playoff failure or no playoffs at all, and start bragging about player rankings and stats. Still waiting for the "Rankings and Stats" parade.

It's a sports forum and there's talk about everything under the sun, and you feel like whining about this?

We have had these weekly threads every year beginning midseason, for years now.
It's a harmless side entertainment to see how QBs are playing and who will get MVP.

What the hell is your problem?

Goff is all over the place this year. Like 41st in qbr and 2nd in classic passer efficiency.

He's 12th in ESPN-only QBR.

My only issue with Goff is the wide range of his production when pressured and not pressured.

To be fair, he's having a good year. 29 TDs and only 5 picks, and a good ypa (8.1) and, as you said, a great NFL passer rating (110)

I think Stafford and Allen have been better...probably Maye too given that he has a weak WR group.

Time to get a new QB, Prescott isn't doing the job he's being paid for, it's as simple as that.

So you watched the Cowboys this season and of all the things that have gone wrong, you think the problem is the QB?

I know a lot of posters on this forum treat Dak as if he stole their lunch money when they were kids. But on a list of 100 issues with the Dallas Cowboys, Dak would be entry 101.

Dak is a good QB, unfortunately he’s not an upper level QB who has the ability to carry a team.

If only we had a real QB like Patrick Mahomes, who carried his team to a 6-8 record before getting hurt.

Still the wrong focus, even if you talk about it every week.
