As long as DeMarco Murray keeps averaging 26 carries and more than 100 yards a game, nobody is going to beat the Cowboys. The running game masks an average defense that's largely kept off the field, and sets up an opportunistic passing attack featuring Dez Bryant, who nobody can seem to cover. - Michael Amato

I agree, but this is where stats are misleading. If he would of said, IF Damarco would get 22 carries and over 100yrds, then we would say, what happened in the 49ers game. I mean, he would have a better YPC right?

We are where we rightly belong at #2. I think our team will get even stronger as we close in the 2nd half of the season. Every one of the teams we play from here on out are winnable. I see us being 9-1 at the bye.

If we get to 9-1 at the bye (certainly doable), then that sets up the stretch run nicely. You really only need two more wins to be comfortable getting into the playoffs and possibly, at the very least, the second seed. The Cardinals still have to play the Seahawks twice, the Packers have to play the Bears again along with the Lions (no easy task), Seattle still has to play the 49ers twice. The Seahawks already have three losses. I don't see them running the tables. Same with the 49ers who also have three losses and still have games against the Chargers and the Chiefs.
The Saints may still end up winning the NFC South, but with four losses, another loss puts them behind us in the playoff seeding race.

The only team that appears to be a challenge for the Cowboys in terms of securing the first or second seed (assuming we enter the bye at 9-1 which means we will have beaten Arizona) is Philadelphia (from our own division. If Philly takes the division, we have to advance to the Super Bowl on the road) and Green Bay or Detroit.

Truth be told, I'm not really concerned about playing Green Bay in Lambeau in the playoffs. Our offense is suited to the cold weather. Detroit? Eh! They could be hot or cold, but they really don't have a running game and, unless your quarterback is heads and shoulders above the competition, passing teams tend to struggle in the playoffs.

But Iz gets aheads of meself. :)

Screw rankings. I don't care about them. I'll just say one thing about what I've seen having us at #2 so far: So Denver, who got thumped by Seattle in Seattle .... again .... is #1 and some of those guys have Green Bay, who also suffered the same fate in Seattle, ahead of us . Just saying...

Don't want to limp in though.

Great post. Yeah, the Eagles are the biggest concern. They still have the Cardinals and Packers on the road and have to play us twice. I wish they would stop getting so dang lucky and start losing! I think we have a solid shot of getting the 1 or 2 seed. I see the Packers getting one of those and us getting the other if we continue to play like we have been and if we continue to improve on defense a little. That should happen with getting both Carter and D Lawrence back by the time we play the Cardinals.

My working theory is that the <best> place the Cowboys could play the Packers in January is at Lambeau.

Go look at the Packer's playoff record the past 5 years with Rodgers. Outside at Lambeau they haven't done great. Not a surprise since their precision passing game is going to be less efficient in bad weather.

Packers in controlled conditions (Domes, etc) have scored a LOT of points.

I know it's hard to get our arms around the fact that the Cowboys might be better suited than the Packers for a game @ Lambeau in January, however, in many ways the Cowboys are PERFECTLY suited to a game at Lambeau in January where a power-running attack is ideal.

Food for thought anyway.

I don't really put much stock into them either but they make for good combo and are fun. It's nice to see us rising. Before long, we will sit at #1.

Didn't know losing in overtime is getting "thumped". Being in second place is fine for now. Don't sweat it.

I am not big on power rankings but I do believe this is a legit playoff team. They just need to stay healthy at several key positions.

Getting beaten in my world, is also called getting thumped. Green Bay also got thumped by Seattle in Seattle, yet was still ranked ahead of the Cowboys by some of the quoted experts. Conversely, we "Thumped" Seattle, in Seattle. All I was pointing out was the subjective nature of these rankings. I'm not sweating anything dude. I'm loving the football the Cowboys are playing right now. These guys don't matter.

I'd rather be ranked well than not but what the 'experts' say mean little. Show me the "W"s and we'll be fine.
