right now our primary backup guard is either Free or Bernie. And one is injured; the other needs to stay at RT. I guess the team has pretty much given up on Arkin being a starter.

Jason hatcher injured himself on the second to last play of the first half. Pointless plays.

Cincy should have just taken a knee. Hatcher limped off.

Bruce carter was also banged up and had to get his ankle taped but never returned, I have heard nothing about his status since.

I am not sure I can take Parnell in the lineup. He was horrible against the Bengals. I will say that Free looked good at guard.

I think given another couple weeks of practice that Parnell will improve.

What if Leary isn't ready?

Then they go with Arkin... But really at this point all we seem to know that Bern has some kind of ankle injury and he wasn't going to play Thursday anyway.

I wouldn't go overboard at this juncture.

Any concern over Hatcher's groin injury? It kept Sims out of practice 2 weeks. That would make him now questionable to start Game 1 against the Giants, going with that timeline.

Honestly, I think we have about 5-6 guards that are all pretty similar in overall talent. Some have more power. Some have better feet and mobility. None seem to have the complete package. Bernadeau, Leary, Livings, Arkin, Kowalski, Costa....it's musical chairs really.

True, but Scandrick's only kept him out a couple of days last week. Every injury situation is different.

I think Leary has the potential to be the "complete package."

You know things are in a sad state when you're hoping for two OGs (Leary and Bernie) to recover in time to start vs. the Giants in time for game one of the regular season. Surely you also know the front office is squirming in their seats right about now and deserve of all the discomfort they have for letting the OL situation get to where it is. Hopefully, they'll bear this in mind whenever the next draft rolls around. What a mess!

With the potential for injuries, I really don't even want them to play the next preseason game. Can't they just forfeit the last preseason game.:) It is pointless.

I sure hope Smith, Free, Fredbeard, Parnell, and Costa don't even play.
Just let Arkin, Kowalski, Coughman, Weems, Bell and whoever is left go through the motions.

Same with every other position. Let Coale and Benford run around at WR. Let Stephens QB the whole game. Who's the 5th string RB? Let him run the ball 30 times. If I were coach, I don't know who I would let play at CB in this last game. I wouldn't even let Webb suit up. I wouldn't even let Bailey attempt a FG or extra point.

I'll watch the game with fingers crossed hoping no one gets hurt. That's about it.

I think we can all safely assume we'll be fielding an all-scrub lineup on our OL and elsewhere vs. the Texans. It's virtually a no-brainer. I couldn't care less if we lose by 30 points . . . just get through it w/no injuries.

every single guard that is now available in free agency needs to be brought in, every single one, regardless of age, health, and performance. our guard situation is pathetic.

Yep. Regardless of signing them all to contracts. Just get'em in here. Might want to run this by Stephen first though.

I'm ready to move on from Bern and Mack. Let's just roll with Smith-Leary-Fred-Free-Parnell with Arkin-Killer-Costa-Bell as backups.

How on earth anyone thinks we should "roll" with Arkin and Kowalski instead of Bern is beyond me. He may be a borderline starter but he's head and shoulders above those guys in terms of the quality you want at a backup spot

I expect them to just play whatever combination on the OLine that they can come up with for game 1. If that fails, then Jerry will immediately pay Waters whatever he wants. I don't see any players cut from other teams as a solution.

Folks seem to fail to realize that there is no one that is getting cut that would be an upgrade over Bern at this point.
