I’m in San Angelo and we got 14.6 from 4:30-6:00 in the morning. I’ve lived here 52 years and have never seen anything like it. The water was 12 feet deep over the highway on the Northeast side of town.
Camp Mystic is a Girl Scout camp in Kerrvill. It’s on the river because it’s a summer river camp with all the activities centered on, in, and around the river. They received the same 14 inches of rain which led to a 20 foot wall of water that formed over a 45 minute period and then raced down a rock canyon. It’s called a catastrophic event because that’s what it was.
There was no preventing it, no stopping it, and a tragedy that nobody around has ever seen it’s equal. It should have been even worse and would have if not for the bravery of the first responders here. Local PD, Fire, State Troopers, and even the Game Wardens were involved and saved a bunch of people.
