Why do we all have to take pre-draft expert knowledge with a grain of salt how about this factiod.

About Adalius Thomas......

"Selected in the sixth round of the 2000 draft - 13 picks ahead of quarterback Tom Brady [stats] - Thomas steadily rose from special teams to starter. Initially stuck behind Peter Boulware and Michael McCrary on the Ravens’ depth chart, he spent the first four years of his career largely as a backup and special-teamer.
He earned All-Pro honors for his special teams coverage in 2003, then became a starter at linebacker in 2004. He has averaged 80 tackles and just more than nine sacks a year since."

Player development and a keen eye for 6th round potential could haver landed Thomas and Brady out of the 6th round of the draft

Great post. Any of us can figure out a 1st round player. It takes real skill to develop a 6th round player into something like Thomas and Brady have.

There are a lot of talented players that just don't pan out for one reason or the other. They were good picks, but those two teams were also extremely lucky.

The thing I keep thinking about Adalius Thomas is that he was a free agent after his fourth year and there were many posters on this board that wanted to sign him because they knew that he was a very good up and coming player stuck behind excellent starters.(I can't remember who those posters were) But the Cowboys in desperate need of a pass rusher and the rest of the league pretty much ignored him for whatever reason. The Ravens re-signed him pretty much on the cheap.

I just want to add a little humility to the whole draft analysis process that will become the expert mantra around here in the next 7 weeks. I'm not convinced Sam Hurd or Miles Austin aren't better receivers than Jarrett or Gonzales--both projected 2nd rounders.

Alexander Wright has long ago taught me the lesson of overvaluing workout talent.
