I cant believe some fans still even want him here.

If anyone is like me, I'd prefer to keep him simply because of a lack of alternatives. It is much like how it was when Phillips was hired. I didn't want that either, but at the time, it was better than hiring Norv Turner.

If Garrett leaves, the plus is that it may motivate Jerry Jones to go after Shanahan. But in the event that he did not and continued with the ridiculous theme of continuity, I certainly would not want an internal replacement for Garrett, regardless of how he struggled late in the season.

1st order of the day is getting Romo away from Hollywood...

http://x17online.com/celebrities/tony_romo/tonys_still_in_town-01102009.php

He can go and gallivant around with whomever he wants on his downtime. It is his right.

The gunslinger mentality is what needs to be beaten out of him or at least supressed. The only way to change that is to get him a better set of handlers. Garrett obviously cannot spend enough time with him or is unable to get through to him. Wade Wilson is a waste of payroll. If we employed a quality quarterbacks coach, you would see a better Romo, regardless of whose panties he wears on his head.

Well, since they are both coming back, how do you get TO and Garrett on the same page? Regardless of what people think about TO and his methods of complaint, he had a few points about Garrett's play-calling, which was suspect at times last season.

It is much like what Phillips alluded to in his final press conference: get both Garrett and Romo some much needed help.

Continuity is not going to fix what is wrong here. The issues are not just going to go away simply because Jerry Jones crosses his fingers.

I won't lose any sleep if Garrett leaves. Garrett has not been good for Romo at all.

Would I like to see him get a chance at HC, sure would more than I want Wade to be HC next year but Garrett needs to do some homework as an OC, period!!!

That is the only plus as far as I am concerned.

Hopefully not getting the jobs will make him a better OC because he feels he has something to prove. :crossed:
My feelings exactly.

I agree with you on that prediction.

I think Terrell Owens' PR campaign against Jason Garrett makes it really risky to bring him back. That is cause, alone, to icut him. How do you think Jason Garrett felt about being blamed by Owens on national television or after games? No other player in the NFL could get away with the stuff Owens does.

How do you think Owens felt running basic, predictable, routes in a vanilla offense that the league had figured out?

How would you feel continually running headlong into double coverage because that's what the simplistic gameplan continues to call for?

Jerry,

Do Jason Garrett and your entire team a favor, cut iOwens. Send the team a message. iplayers can hit the road.

I would be happy if Garrett can work in peace and not have to appease that iselfish player.

Yeah, send the Hall-of-Fame receiver packing because he dared to criticize the 'Golden Age Golden Boy's" lousy game-planning.

How about the fact that "the Chosen One" wanted to keep Brad Johnson around? How'd you feel running routes when you know your fossil of a QB couln't get you the ball anyway?

But proper etiquette calls for a player to keep quiet, despite obvious issues.

I would be happy if Garrett can work on his underwhelming offensive schemes.

There's a reason he's not getting a head coaching job, he simply doesn't deserve it.

Lions Closing In On Coach

Losses by the Titans, Giants and Chargers over the weekend were the Lions' gain.

They made the Lions' coaching search easier, allowing them to pursue three defensive coordinators: Jim Schwartz (Titans), Steve Spagnuolo (Giants) and Ron Rivera (Chargers).

Schwartz is expected to have his second interview today, which generally includes a meeting with owner William Clay Ford Sr.

The Lions also might arrange a second interview with Spagnuolo and a first with Rivera.

Had the Titans and Giants won, the Lions would have had to wait a week to interview Schwartz and Spagnuolo again and until after their seasons ended to hire them, under NFL rules.

Had the Chargers won, the Lions would have had to wait until Rivera's season ended to interview or hire him.

Teams can conduct second interviews with Super Bowl teams after the conference championship games. They no longer can conduct first interviews with assistants whose teams are alive in the playoffs. They cannot offer an assistant a head coaching job until his season ends.

Fox's Jay Glazer reported that Schwartz was on his way to Detroit, the Lions would want to talk to Spagnuolo again if the Giants lost, and the search could come down to those two.

Spagnuolo is a longshot to become the Lions' coach, though, according to a person familiar with the situation. The Jets, Broncos and perhaps the Rams also are interested in him, and he turned down the Commanders last year.

The Lions also have done first interviews with Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles and Commanders secondary coach Jerry Gray.

Frazier, Garrett and Bowles are candidates for other jobs.

The Lions reportedly have expressed interest in Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey and Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.

It is unknown whether the Lions have interviewed Mularkey or Harbaugh.

Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said Sunday the team continues to decline to confirm candidates or comment on the search. But when the Lions began the process, president Tom Lewand said they might make candidates available to the media at some point.

The Rex Ryan angle is new. Might mean they don't name Schwartz today as I have predicted.

I heard this morning that Rex Ryan had a great interview with the Jets and that he's moved in as the favorite to win that job.

It seems to be that they'd prefer to stick with a 3-4 defensive guy.

I liked Ryan for us before Wade was hired.

(and still do!)

How do you think when Tony Romo called Garrett out as well? Oh yeah, that doesn't fit your agenda to get rid of TO...

Funny how people claim it was TO that forced Garrett not to spread the ball around... If that is the case, why did all the WRs blame Garrett? Don't you think they would have sided against TO? Why was TO lobbying for Garrett to actually throw the ball to Roy Williams? Funny how people were talking about RW not being able to run the proper routes by the end of the year, when they were all on his jock when he came aboard and got that fade TD, as well as had that amazing one-handed grab... They kept lobbying for him to get the ball and not throw the ball to TO.. They were chatting about how he had sure hands and Garrett needs to use his size-advanatge...Ironically, the Garrett homers now talk about how Roy Williams suddenly doesn't run proper routes and he and TO were conspiring against Garrett....
