We've sort of had him under wraps this season and I think this will be his coming out party. He was a final cut for the Seahawks in preseason, knows their system and practiced against their offense, and he is needed this week with no Carter and possibly McClain.

I think we could see him in the nickel quite a bit. He is supposed to have good coverage skills, and has good speed.

I like the aspect of him going against his former team. This could be a real coming out party for him.

I think the plan is to have Wilber at SAM this week, with Durant/Toomer at WILL and McClain/Hitchens at MIKE. Toomer and McClain/Durant in the nickel.

The wildcard is how much McClain can play.

Isn't he still bothered by an injury? If not put him in. Guarantee he'll play with a chip on his shoulder.

I've been wondering about him and why we haven't seen more of him yet given the injuries. I'd like to see that change, this week if needed.

I've been looking for that possibility in my review of info on him, and the only thing I see is that he had a "nagging hamstring" injury that led to his release by the Seahawks, but in interviews (like with Spagnola last month) he sounds ready to go and hoping to play. Also, he has been active on our 46 man roster a few times this season - no point to that if he couldn't go. My conclusion is that he is healthy and can play.

Garrett made a comment a few weeks ago, since he was brought in, after TC, he was still learning the system. Which didn't make since totally, because weren't we told this defense is a similar style to the Seattle defense. Or maybe that's only the DL rotation part.

So the injury thing makes more since, especially on how this team is very "vague" about injury status.
By vague I mean not always truthful...LOL

I think Hitchens will play before Wilbur. IMO

I got a link for you on that:

Rookie Anthony Hitchens, who made his first start at strong-side linebacker Sunday in place of the injured Bruce Carter, said Wednesday he’s not practicing at strong-side linebacker this week.

Hitchens said the Cowboys have Kyle Wilber working at strong-side linebacker in practice in preparation for the game at the Seahawks. Hitchens said he’s back practicing at middle and weak-side linebacker. He mostly worked at middle linebacker Wednesday with Rolando McClain not practicing with a strained groin.

Yeah, it kind of doesn't add up for me either. He went from a guy with an opportunity to compete for the starting strong-side linebacker role on the Super Bowl champs defense to an afterthought on a defense struggling for playmakers.

He was healthy enough to play considerable snaps in the Seahawks' last two preseason games, so the hamstring injury should obviously no longer be an issue.

I hope to see him get his shot soon, hopefully this week.

He should definitely be on the 46 this game with Carter out and Keith Smith back to the PS. Also, Cam Lawrence missed some practice time with an injury.

I don't see him playing in the base. That will be 3 of these 4: McClain, Durant, Hitchens, Wilber.

The Nickel will be 2 of these 4: Durant, Hitchens, McClain, Toomer.

This is a good post. I think if McClain can't roll then we're looking at Durant at the Mike possibly. I don't know where they've trained Toomer but his speed and coverage ability makes him a perfect Will. That pushes Wilber to Sam where I think he can play although I'm not crazy about his coverage ability.

Wish I could remember what Garett said about him on Wed/Thu....I think it was that they thought he had the chance to develop into a nice player, but that he needed time to get more familiar with what we want him to do on our defense. There was one specific liability he mentioned. Anybody recall what it was? It sounded to me like a he's-not-ready-for-snaps kind of thing.

I took it as just that. He needs to be more familiar with the reads.
