With some saying Sterling Moore is moving to safety for next season that puts us at 7 potential safeties for next season:

Sterling Moore
Matt Johnson
Barry Church
JJ Wilcox
Danny McCray
Jakar Hamilton
Will Allen

Obviously we aren't going to carry 7 on the roster, what is your prediction?

My prediction is: Moore stays at corner, and one of the young guys will get put on PUP or IR with an injury during camp

Barry Church, Will Allen, JJ Wilcox, and Matt Johnson make the roster. Jakar Hamilton will be put on the PS. McCray will be a late cut. Moore will be in a battle for nickel CB.

I agree that Moore stays at corner, and we carry five corners and five safeties.

The safeties are:
Barry Church
Matt Johnson
Will Allen
JJ Wilcox
Danny McCray

The corners are:
Maurice Claiborne
Brandon Carr
Orlando Scandrick
Sterling Moore
B.W. Webb

Church and Johnson. I really like wilcox as a prospect but he is atleast a season away from being a starting safety.

Johnson and Wilcox.. Putting my money on the rookies, both are better ball hawks.. Jakar is going to be a wild card. Church's injury scares me.. Allen is here to mentor..

I also wouldn't be surprised if one of the veterans is cut. Either McCray or Allen. If some of these young linebackers and these other young safeties can play special teams, we don't need 2 older veterans. Especially 1 who is awful at safety. (McCray)

Does anyone know what Scandrick cap implications are if the other guys do well and beat him out? We missed Scan last year but who knows maybe these young guys have game, excited about Webb.

Sadly it'll probably be McCray and Church.

Not even Garrett would be stupid enough to put McCray out there at safety. No matter how good he does in camp

If he does, just know Stephen and Jerry will over rule it, as they should. Being that Stephen basically dogged McCray last year and threw him under the bus.

It will be Johnson and Church..

Johnson may be a fan favorite a week into camp. I feel it

I expect Church to be the definite. He was getting more praise than anyone not named Dez in training camp last offseason. I think we have a Raw guy beside him as it is a straight competition between J.J. Wilcox and Matt Johnson.

McCray wouldn't surprise me; Allen would. He's a vet who played welll when forced to start last year and knows Kiffin's system, which means he can help the younger guys learn it.

McCray showed last year that he can't be counted on as a starter, but is strictly a special teammer. However, Kiffin might see him as a nickel linebacker in this 4-3.

Plus, I just don't expect UDFAs like Jakar Hamilton to do enough to beat them out. Obviously, they can surprise, but I don't count on it.

Church for sure and I think Wilcox or Hamilton will be the other guy with Allen and McCray backing up. I don't think Johnson makes it out of camp.

Church is one barring injury. I have no clue about the other safety.

Although I think this position will be at worse decent, I will worry about it all year.

Seriously, we must have the most no-name nondescript untested inexperienced group of S's out there. Polamalu/Clark or Chancellor/Thomas these guys aren't.

Lol I agree. But I am actually confident in the competition there. I liked Church a lot last year. We actually had a safety that made plays!

I know they thought felt highly of Hamilton, and talent wise, many were saying he could have been a 3rd round pick. McShay even said he was top 5 most talented safety in draft. Off the field issues hurt him.

I think we will be fine at safety. These are talented guys. And someone will be very impressive in training camp. At worst, we have Will Allen start who is an above average safety. Another Gerald Sensabaugh.

I watched film on Wilcox. He is super impressive. Granted competition he played against wasn't great, but he was all over the place. Has a ton of natural ability.

Agreed. But, I think I read somewhere that they were planning on moving moore to safety. That probably means the axe for McCray or Johnson.
