Quantify how well you think Dak will perform in Romo's absence. What will it take to be good enough to get wins? What will his win loss record be assuming he plays 8 games? What will be his best game and worst game? QB ratings?

Regarding the TEAM'S won/loss record, if it's 8 games...was thinking of doing a poll.

But 8 games would be 9 weeks since they have a bye week, so wouldn't Romo already be back by then?

I'd be pleased with 4-4.

I'd be ecstatic with 5-3 or 6-2.

With a better defense I'd have higher expectations, however, I expect teams to load the box like they did last season and see if Dak can hurt them.

I think if they play to Dak's strengths his QB rating will probably be the highest in the early games against weaker teams and may go down a little bit as teams start to figure out what he does well and doesn't like to do. I am guessing we run the ball quite a bit early on, like maybe 60 percent of the time if we can get by with it.

QBR ...... Anything over 90 average for the season is going to be good enough to win most games. I am guessing his first four weeks could be over 100, with a slight decline after that to settle into the 90's. He could exceed that. I think he will win more than he loses.

I would expect that he could lay an egg in at least one of his starts though. If so I hope it isn't the first game. He needs to keep his momentum going.

I don't know what the record will be but what I do know is that it is going to be interesting as hell to see what a guy with Dak's charisma, leadership, and moxie can do with this offense. Particularly if you factor in his ability to scramble/run along with his overall athleticism.

Regardless of what the W/L column says, I'm going to feel like I'm watching the future of the Dallas QB position and will be looking at everything with an eye towards what Dak will be as much as what he is at the moment.

I don't know about everyone else... but I'm going to have a blast.

I think he will do good enough tohelp us not lose games.

Now if we come out there behaving like little *****es, and running he ball on every 1st n 2nd down. Not giving Dak much room to make plays and bail us out on 3rd. He might not look to good.

I could see us being 5-3 or 6-2 by time Romo is ready.

3-5 I think he'll be ok but unlike Romo he's nowhere near good enough to make up for our D. I don't think he'll be Weeden bad but he won't be preseason Dak good either. Either way it's going to be pretty exciting to see the backup for once, Weeden,Cassell snd all the others we've had was never going anywhere, Dak might

There will be problems that arise in the first season with any 'rook.' That's a given, but this team can handle bumps in the road, with the best of them.

To quantify: Dak will play at a Super Bowl winning level. Dak will be the story of the 2016 nfl season. The Cowboys are about to go on a New England-green bay type of winning every season thanks to Dak. He's the next true superstar cowboy QB.

Non believer:Why do you believe in him so much?

Me: watched him play in the preseason

Non believer: but he was playing against vanilla defenses

Me: I was a believer in Tony Romo after watching him in preseason vs vanilla defenses. When a guy flashes you big time ability, believe in it! Talent is talent and it will transfer against any defense. People are just scared to go with something they've never seen, I go with what my eyes and gut tell me.

NB: what about him being a rookie, blitzes and no defense

Me: We have more talent than I think we even know we have. They'll say Wilson had a great defense... But we have the best offense in football... Wilson didn't have that. He'll have a game were he's off, and the sheep will announce this is it: but it won't be. Just the normal ebb and flow every QB goes through.

Well, 6-2 is a 75% win rate--which is what we've had with Romo in both 2014 and 2015.
That would be sweet.

Of those 8, they play:
  • 2 really good teams
  • 3-4 really bad teams
  • 2-3 so-so teams.

I like the odds of maybe splitting them at 4-4.
There's no reason why they can't pull that off and it would set the table okay going forward.

fwiw, I feel they would have been 7-1 or 6-2 with Tony.

I hope your prediction is accurate. At least the preseason indicates you may not be wrong. Unlike most I do believe his preseason is an indication of what he will do in the regular season. He played well against the Seattle starting defense. That shouldn't be overlooked.

I'm not comfortable predicting any hard numbers yet, but man I can't wait to see Dak run this offense. I remember how much more in synch they looked when Moore stepped in last season. We actually looked like a real football team again. Sure we still lost, but he doesn't have the tools that Dak has. I fully expect us to be better than just even.

Here is the (ugly) reality of 4th round and later QBs starting at least 6 games as a rookie:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/tiny/Aqwih

With that in mind I think we can get (and would be ecstatic with):
80 QB rating
18-22 attempts per game
Roughly even number of TDs and INTs
40 rush yards per game

We can tread water with that. Also I said 50% yesterday, but I've revised it to 40% chance that Dak plays like 80% of that list and is replaced at some point by Sanchez.

I think this is pretty accurate. Pretty forget he is a raw rookie

He also played well vs the Miami and Rams starters.

Think he goes 6-2. 4-4 if our defense plays as I suspect it will.
