not awful by any means.

Zach would be a great backup.
I think McAlister is done from a health standpoint but CB is a need.

I don't think Robinson would be practice squad eligible, Hos... he's already played 23 games in the NFL... I have 11 candidates for the practice squad, assuming none are signed by other teams, and assuming they don't sign a player or two from other teams (which they have done in the past... the ones I think most likely will be in bold fonts:

QB Rudy Carpenter
RB Keon Lattimore
WR Jesse Holley
WR Manuel Johnson
OL Travis Bright

OL Ryan Gibbons
OL Greg Isdaner
DE Marcus Dixon
DB Mike Mickens
DB DeAngelo Smith

DB DeAngelo Willingham

And out of that group, my 8th slot would go to Ryan Gibbons...

Wow Silverbear, you hit my picks for the PS exactly!

I don't think it's a good idea to trade a main cog from the nickel defense a week before the season starts. Carpenter is soft against the run, but he's done well in coverage.

Zach is kaput. Let's not go there.

Proctor is a place-card holder for when Brewster comes off of the PUP list.

Wow! Haven't even played a game this season and Austin is a waste? Ouch! You must be hangin around burmashave too much there Hos! LOL!

I didn't say he was a waste. Just don't think he or Procter were worth that tender. I don't call NFL players wastes. The only player I am really shocked who made the team is McQuistan. Thought he was slow footed and terrible this off season. I think he's gone if Brewster can recover.

Being that the club lacked depth at both WR and OL, they were sorta strong-armed into the tenders... Part of the curse of not drafting well enough in those areas.

It wasn't the best use of money, but it wasn't the worst either-- not like the extension given to Owens.

I agree with the last part. It isn't a slap at Owens either, in reality it's a slap at Jerry. He was paid top money to be a ticket draw and attention grabber and Jerry got what he paid for.

I firmly believe Owens was cut because he would have been a bigger story than the stadium.

Interesting take.

Jerry cut Owens as a marketing move..and ya know, it could very well be.

The spotlight is always shared in Dallas since 2003.

Jerry and Tuna.

Jerry and Owens.

Jerry and the Stadium.

It's just a theory, but one I am subscribing to right now. There are always interesting subplots surrounding the spotlight too. Romo's love life and golf talent being one that I think is light enough for Jerry to really enjoy. The current bed buddy of Romo's took over as host of one of Jerry's shows on the Cowboys. She replaced Brad Sham. Coincidence, or media savvy move?

Jerry's no idiot when it comes to marketing.

He might be smart when it comes to marketing, but his obsession with it to the point it even drives his football decisions is damaging to the organization.

Depends on your view of damaging the organization. Jerry has the most valuable sports property in North America. I agree with you the football operations take a back seat to marketing, but I think the Forbes list is more his idea of a Super Bowl than the Lombardi trophy.

I have to agree. Jerry is obviously hopeful that it will be easier to get people to sign in Dallas and that corporate money will push that goal.

Where I fault Jerry is with regards to the Head Coach. He's made some poor decisions and has stuck with them for too long. People are correct in saying he would have fired GMs if he wasn't the GM. I think that's a two edged sword, but many do not.

Jerry can sell the Cowboys as a product better than anyone else. What I would love is if he could get back to putting a winner on the field. There's literally no reason he can't, but he hasn't.

Football players aren't an exact science. Marketing pretty much is. That's the difference. Lots of good football guys make mistakes and screw up their teams. Look at Belichek in Cleveland. So in my opinion, Jerry knows he cant control how good the team really is, but he can make sure it makes lots of money. I think back in about 2005 when Forbes indicated the Commanders were the most valuable franchise, that made him more upset that being 6-10 all those years. Jerry will always do whatever will sell a ticket or a corporate box. He understands it and it makes sense to him.

I can't imagine we'll ever get a "real" coach here again. Parcells was on the right track (more or less), but I will always believe Jerry went crazy without the ability to add a big name free agent or be the centerpeice of the press conference where he can drop his soundbytes to get in the news and promote the franchise. He could afford to bring in guys to run the team and make us winners but that would infringe on his control to market and bring in players to create a "buzz". On my less positive days, I think we're going to be Oakland in 10 years

I don't know if it'll take 10 years to be Oakland if we have a few more offseasons like this.
