Previous Secondary- how are they doing?

Our Secondary needed to be shaken up and that's exactly what the Cowboys FO did. They adding top tier talent in CB Awuzie & CB Lewis, free agent CB Carroll, and a couple high ceiling prospects in S Woods & CB White. On the other hand we lost a few well know guys that fans honestly had a variety of opinions on. It's early, but I've been curious how they've performed so far in their new teams mini camps.
Note: I couldn't find much on Brandon Carr and JJ Wilcox, so feel free to post anything so find relative.

Morris Claiborne:

Barry Church:

I'll admit, of the guys that left, I wanted Claiborne back bc 'when healthy' last year.. he was playing like a top CB in the league. But I get the decision, his health just couldn't be trusted so it was time to move on. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a Pro-bowl season, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he didn't finish the season.

Mo lost me a couple of years ago when he wasn't where he was suppose to be in the playbook. I always like Carr and Church. But I guess Carr is doing what he do best, stay off the radar.

Can't really judge veterans until the real games start.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'm just playing the scenario as if they were in our camp.

Brandon Carr- little to report, so I guess 'no news' is good news for a CB. Which is ab what we'd expect feom carr

Morris Claiborne- apparently is impressing the Jets, so take that for what it's worth

Barry Church- has missed most of camp. I'm sure folks would be up-n-arms if we would have just signed him to a big extension and was presently missing camp. Meanwhile, Heath seems to be doing well

JJ Wilcox- little to report. So, I guess that's ab what we'd expect also.

That Jets article is really propping Mo up.

Do they not realize that Claiborne, when he actually practiced, always had good plays in the offseason when he was in Dallas? That's nothing new. He and Dez had some great TC battles.

But just wait until September/October roll around... That's when the real Claiborne shows up. I'm so glad we washed our hands of a guy who couldn't ever even play half a season.

I know it is all the rage to dump on everyone that left in FA, but I would have preferred to keep one for continuity's sake instead of getting challenged to turn the whole group over in FA and the draft. Adding Nolan Carroll does nothing to improve what losing Claiborne or Carr, so FA was a waste. I like the players we took in the draft a lot, but I would have liked to have a little less urgency with the secondary and if we did things just a little different, it might have turned out. Should be interesting to see how it works out.

He did until he got hurt again.

We may have offered him a one year deal...who know? Regardless, I fully understand not investing money in a player that literally can not stay on the field.
Yeah that's fair. Brown being such a pleasant surprise and this draft being so strong at cb I'm sure played into it too

Congratulations to Mr. Claiborne who signed up with a team who will win about 3 games this year.

It's not much of an accomplishment covering a receiver nobody ever heard from and picking off Christian Hackenberg.
Exactly what I was thinking lol I was reading the names and was like "who?"

Kind of weird to see you express like towards a player. Sort of like finding Sasquatch or @WoodysGirl starting an opinion thread. Thanks for sharing.

I liked the particular secondary players we took in Awuzie, Lewis and Woods. I just like how they play the position. I wanted nothing to do with a "superstar" DB that were dripping with workout accolades. They were not players that got the fabled "shutdown" label, nor did they get overly lauded for their "length" and "speed". I watched them play and I liked them. Far more preferable than some of the DBs I was frightened we would draft, like Tre'Davious White and Obi Melifonwu.

If I am guessing, I'd say you are all aboard the Maliek Collins bandwagon now too.
Not really. He had a pretty decent rookie year. But unlike some people, I am not going to consider him at Warren Sapp level just because his rookie "stats" were better.

That's fair. As I have stated before, a better comparison IMO is Kris Jenkins, not Warren Sapp

Aside from the injury issues-- Mo had a wonderlic score of 4 (out of 50!!) I believe. The average wonderlic score for a CB is 18. In his defense, Darrelle Revis also scored a 4-- but I am glad we are bringing guys in like Byron Jones (scored a 33) and Xavier Woods (had a 39 I believe). We need smart players in the secondary-- not guys who are just great athletes.

I'll go out on a limb and say that by seasons end those 4 stiffs will combine for fewer than 5 combined picks

The only one I was sad to see go was Church.

I would've taken Carr back on his contract. His deal is only a 3 million dollar cap hit and the Ravens can safely move on after one year.

That deal wouldn't have stopped us from revamping our secondary. Carr has his faults but he rarely gets burned deep and he's so durable. He seemed to be a better player last season when he switched sides.

I understand the team for wanting to just move on though.

Yeah -- today, I heard that Hackenberg's former NFL coach said "he couldn't hit the ocean," regarding his passing ability.
