It kind of irks me that guy like Cam Newton make the Pro Bowl because his team is winning and they have a top defense. Is it because Romo was hurt in the last game and wouldn't be able to make it anyways?

He was good enough to put most of his skill position players in the Pro Bowl.

3rd in the league in TDs.
2nd most 4th quarter game winning drives

Newton has a QB rating of 88.8 Good enough for 16th in the NFL. Is it a popularity contest?

I'm not wild about it either, but it was pretty consistent with the way they always pick them. It's not an outrageous pick. Brees and Wilson were always going to be there. Cam played pretty well for most of the year and his running adds some utility that isn't apparent in the passing stats. If we could ever win the division for a change, then Tony will get there.

Newton ran for an additional 500 yards, 6 rushing touchdowns, and helped his team gain another 45 1st downs with his legs.

That's a lot of productivity.

I don't believe Cam should be in the Probowl, however, I am a big believer in looking at the complete stat line.

To be fair, Romo did make it in 2006 after only 5 games, which he probably shouldn't have. But because 'Romomania' was in full effect and the media loved him, he got voted in.

It's absolutely a popularity contest. Nothing more, really.

Romo started 10 games and was the 5th-highest rated passer in the league in 2006. Four years earlier, McNabb started 10 games, was 7th in passer rating, and also went to the Pro Bowl.

Right.

It's all about fan voting.

And Tony Romo is one of the most despised players in the league. Most non-Cowboy fans hate him. Heck, a lot of Cowboy fans hate him. Just look at general commentary after the 49ers/Seahawks game. People were comparing Kaepernick with Romo.

Any QB who throws a late game interception in an important game is automatically compared to Romo. People give me the gears all the time when it happens. There was a meme after the Patriots game of Giselle and Brady shortly after the AFC Championship game. The meme had Giselle saying to Brady "If I wanted to be with a loser, I would have married Romo".

So the only way Tony Romo gets into the Pro Bowl is with Peyton Manning numbers, when there is no other choice but to send him. So the league will hold their nose and send him.

While I'll disappointed that Romo did not receive the recognition he deserves, I am pleased that three of the five Cowboys that did make it are not in the twilight of their careers.

Should have been more specific.

Romo had only started 5-6 games before being voted INTO the pro bowl. Remember his first start was around mid season. What I was indicating was that his sample size at the time of being voted in was extremely small.

Not that I care anyway, but I remember every non Cowboys fan being upset about Romo being voted into the pro bowl.

First of all you have to give it back to them (see Percy) because they'll be stunned that you've pushed back at all. I can't tell you how much of his stuff I've used where I absolutely shut people down and they stutter for a response.

Second, somebody should've created a meme of Candice with Tony saying to Romo - "If I wanted to be with a cheater I would've married Brady."

See how it works?

I can't complain. Cowboys were gifted 5 Pro Bowlers.

I had 5 going in but I thought Lee and Romo would be 2 of them.

Cam deserves it IMO. Cam is not the one I have a problem with. How is Luck in before Romo? But I assumed since he was hurt and couldn't play anyway that was why he didn't get voted in. I'm trying to remember the last time a guy replaced a player while he was hurt just to get replaced again.

Was that his only Pro Bowl? Kinda funny, the only season he didn't deserve to go to the Pro Bowl (besides the season when he got hurt in Week 6) is the only season he ever made it.

Yes but Romo deserves it over Newton. The problem Romo faces is simple. Perception.

There was a time when Romo was the up and coming player like Newton is now.

Romo never has really recovered from that fumbled snap in Seattle.

When the Seattle game was on the other day..

..I was having flashbacks of our loss up there.

Then when I saw Kap have 3 turnovers immediately reminding me of Tony R.
