Here are my early Pro Bowl predictions for the Cowboys this year:

Offense:
Jason Witten (starter)
Terrell Owens (starter)
Drew Bledsoe (alternate)
Julius Jones (alternate)

Defense:
Roy Williams (starter)
Terence Newman (starter)
DeMarcus Ware (alternate)

Looks pretty reasonable to me. Newman should be in there though. I hope he is not overlooked again this season.

If the Cowboys' offense clicks this year with Bledsoe to TO/Glenn/Witten, then I'm predicting they'll reward at least one of our linemen. Maybe a return bid for Flozell or Rivera?

Don't forget Henry too. The dude puts up the stats. Newman is a far better corner, but fans love those stats and vote for those players.

I dont see jjones making it. With backs such as shaun alexander, edgerin james, tikki barber, Warrick Dunn, and Clinton Portis, he would need a hell of a year to get in. Add in the fact that he hasn't had a 1000 yard rushing season yet, and that there offense is most likely going to be very pass heavy, I don think he can outperform the others listed above.

The others seem pretty reasonable though. Bledsoe might be a little bit of a stretch, but if there passing game performs like they should, then he should probably get in there considering how weak the NFC qb's are.

You did see the word "alternate," didn't you? If he plays 16 games this season, Julius very well could be an alternate. He finished eighth in the NFC in rushing yards last season, when he missed three games and parts of two other games. It wouldn't take much for him to finish among the top six in the NFC, which would put him in position to be an alternate.

dont only the top three running backs make it from each conference?

Three make the Pro Bowl, and at least three are alternates. If one of the top three declines to go (injury, etc.), the first alternate goes. If two decline, the second alternate goes, etc. The original poster, jdub2k4, predicted that Julius would be an alternate.

Backs in NFC that will/can do better than JJ in order

Shaun
Portis
Tiki
Edge
Deuce
S. Jackson
Carnell *He can bust out but remember its fans voting so he can get help*
Warrick Dunn *people like him and the recognize his abilities*
Brian Westbrook (this is a stretch but he is a WR threat)
Kevin Jones *martz*
DeShaun Foster

I would put JJ b/w Dunn and westbrook. So obviously he has some ways to go to even get considered. Plus, the line isnt certain.

You had better drop Portis behind Edge and Barber. If JJ runs liek he did at teh end of his rookie year he is in, if not he is out.

Big thing, IF. But given the late "run" (we will call it a run, because he hasnt shown he can be relied to do that any given week), he still isnt as good as a handful of backs in the NFC.

As for Edge and Barber. Edge is in a new place were RBs tend to die. Barber, maybe its bias, but I just dont see him doing as well. Portis has come off 1500 yards 10TD season and was the main focus of the offense. Imagine with new WRs, and improved Cooley, and new offense, what portis could do.

I wouldnt be surprised if he got 1700 and 12TDs.

Shaun - agree
Portis - agree
Tiki - agree
Edge - not with Arizona's line. He's about to discover the pain of playing for a crappy team for alot of money.
Deuce - still hurt
S. Jackson - Juluis has looked better than him, and he has is own durability issues
Carnell *He can bust out but remember its fans voting so he can get help*
Warrick Dunn *people like him and the recognize his abilities*
Brian Westbrook (this is a stretch but he is a WR threat) - not a good runner though.
Kevin Jones *martz* - what are you smoking. Jones has looked worse than Juluis. He has played more games and put up less yards.
DeShaun Foster - coming off a serious injury. there is a reason the panther are thinking about taking a RB. This guy can't stay healty.

Portis touches the ball more than any back in the NFL, his Yds/Carry average isnt all to amazing with that oline. yea randle el and lloyd are upgrades of your #2 and #3 recievers last year, but you have to take in to mind that you play one of the hardest schedules in football and portis wont be touching the ball as much now with your new offense and cooley improving and all that junk you talk about. i see portis having a 1200-1300 yard season with less than 10 TDs. as for Jones i see about the same thing if he can stay healthy.

I dont Drew Bledsoe is a stretch because he almost made it last year but the nationally televeised game against Washington is what hurt him. He lead fan votes for quarterbacks in NFC since the fan balloting had began. Its hard to say about Julius but he should have a great season as long as he stays healthy.....but just because he is the NFC with those great backs dont mean they are guaranteed either

Ehh, well I think this is just were we have to agree to disagree. I still think he will touch it many, many times and his YPC will go up because Saunders knows how to run the ball. (Priest and LJ) Because of the new targets and system, Brunell will throw it more probably but will have a higher completion %. I think the big thing about the offense is more efficiency.
