Pro Days: Syracuse QB Nassib, OL Pugh solid at pro day

If early bookings in his pre-draft itinerary are any indication, Syracuse senior quarterback Ryan Nassib might not have to leave the state to find a new place to lay his helmet.

Before freshening up for a night on the town with Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg -- OK, they're going to dinner -- Nassib completed 69 of 75 passes in a rehearsed throwing session coordinated by former NFL quarterback and assistant coach Ken Anderson and former NFL coordinator Paul Hackett.

Nassib will also meet with the Buffalo Bills, who were represented by general manager Buddy Nix. The Bills drafted eighth, one spot before the Jets. Both teams are expected to be in the market for quarterbacks pending the outcome of free agency. The Bills are now coached by Doug Marrone, who left Syracuse in January to accept the position.

The Bengals are another team that reportedly set up a meeting with Nassib.

Nassib is NFLDraftScout.com's fifth-ranked quarterback, but the closely huddled pecking order at the position leaves open the possibility that the top five or six could be valued much higher -- or lower -- by certain teams.

Nassib has enough arm but has to prove he can land the deep ball consistently. The other big question is whether he'll remain sound of mind in the face of a crumbling pocket. To that end, there are scouts concerned that his top-level toughness could lead to poor decisions in that he'll be inclined to play the role of hero -- leading to big hits or interceptions -- rather than live to fight another down.

--Offensive lineman Justin Pugh pumped up 22 reps of 225, significant headway toward proving he's recovered from shoulder surgery. Multiple outlets reported Thursday that Pugh worked out for the Eagles earlier in the week on campus. He's a potential top-50 prospect who could rise up draft boards in the coming weeks.

I like Pugh as a 3rd round pick.. Him and Alvin Bailey out of Arkansas are my favorite guards once you get past the best 3 (Warmack, Cooper, Warford)

Are they describing a 2nd round possibility for Nassib? They cannot seriously be talking about Nassib going 8th overall.

If a team takes Nassib in the first round, they're fools.

I think he very well could be taken at the mid to bottom of the first round as teams always take QBs higher than most think they will and with this being a weak QB class he is one of the top prospects.

With that said...I don't know if they are trying to say that Buffalo would take him at 8 overall or if they left out that buffalo could trade down in the first or up from their second.

CBS has been forcing unqualified QBs into the early 1st round all offseason.
Pay Rob Rang no mind regarding draft positions of QBs.

Buffalo has said they plan to draft a QB.
I would assume that if Geno Smith is not there, that would mean they take one in the 2nd or 3rd round unless they trade up into the late 1st.
Also, I think it helps more to have a strong arm in Buffalo than in many places. That would make the other QBs (Glennen or Bray for example) a better fit than Nassib.
I don't see Nassib as upgrading Fitzpatrick.

I watched Nassib for the last 3 years.

He's about as good and sticking in the pocket and moving around the pocket as any QB in this draft. I really don't know why there are concerns there.

However, his biggest issue is the deep ball. He needs to be able to throw that consistently and I think it's more of a technique thing. I think he needs 1-2 years to ride the bench, then get on the field and he could be a very good starting QB.
