Football fans have a love/hate relationship with Pro Football Focus. In general, we love that someone is taking the time to chart every player and play for each NFL team and derive some kind of ranking system from that. Kudos for at least trying to create a baseline for comparing players to one another. But, we certainly hate some of the inconsistencies in their process. And we especially hate when our own team seems to be unfairly judged.

Given that, let's see what PFF thinks of the Cowboys offense going into the 2016 season. They rank three position groups for each NFL team, the quarterbacks, the running backs and the receivers.

Hard to say what they rank the offense overall when they didnt discuss 5/11 of the starting unit.
Rest assured that if you include the oline then they are top 8 or so, even by PFFs low estimates...so not middle of the pack at all

I think top 5 overall is more like it

Anyone have a link on the source material?

I'd like to judge for myself instead of good ol' Dave Halprin or whatever decide for me.

They are judging Romo on how he played vs Carolina last year? Really?

That is all I need to know and also assures me that I am right never bothering with these guys.

Well this is a bummer article. I mean, we know the defense is probably middling at best. If this is the best they can muster on offense after six years of the Garrett regime, it is time to blow the whole thing up and start over.

Romo has been criminally underrated his entire career.

Pro Football Focus's rankings are subjective as all hell.

Didn't realize that til a few years ago. They carry a lot less weight with me these days because of that. And not just on a Cowboys perspective.

I expect us to score 30 pts per game with this 'average' unit, so I'd hate to see what kind of points the good offenses are putting up.

I'm a pretty conservative fan and try to really temper my expectations, but with the line we have along with the skill players we have I think we are very realistically in talks for best offense in the league. Steelers and cardinals should be the other teams in the discussion, but I don't see why we're not better or as good.

I think it was @percyhoward who said, while PFF is good at telling you what happened, they aren't particularly adept at telling you what will happen.

Sounds about right to me -- they obviously let our 2015 season affect their thinking about Romo's chances for recovery (sure hope they're wrong.)
