Proof Murray isn't running to daylight

I think the issue with Murray is that he's focusing too much now on holding onto the ball, and he's not running as aggressively as a result. I keep thinking about how he ran in the CIN preseason game after he got back in the game. That's what I want to see in the starting lineup right now. At that point, he was angry and determined and a very, very good RB. Right now, I think he's thinking too much about taking care of the ball.

You could be right. It could simply be a mental thing that someone needs to talk to him about so he can get over it. Another way to get him to run harder is start rotating Dunbar in during practice and in games and let Murray get pissed about that. Or want to protect the starting role. I personally think Murray has it in him to be a much better runner, we just have to find a way to get it out of him so it helps us in games instead of hurts us.

I predict Murray to have a big game on Sunday and this 'running into darkness' nonsense will go away.

Yep. Or pull him for a play (not a whole series) the first time he misses the obvious hole. Let him come back in angry and see if that works again. The guy has all the tools. He's still a good player. He's slumping. Most players slump from time to time. We're better off playing him through it while constantly reminding him we've got players breathing down his neck.

And Dunbar's going to get fixed eventually, too. Right now, I'd be bringing him in on some third downs as an outlet receiver when we're getting blitzed senseless. He does alright wrapping the ball at the LoS. Where he gets into trouble is the way he swings it around when he's getting tackled in space. Beyond the two fumbles he's had, the ball has been loose at the point of impact on a couple other plays. He's just got to wrap up when he's going down, and I think he'll be alright.

Until the next game. face it; the fan base has turned on Murray. He is going to have to put together a string of Emmitt like performances to reverse that. Once the fans base gets down on a running back, its a very hard row back to grace. Just ask Julius Jones, Marion Barber and Felix Jones.

How can you not care about ball control in a running back? I love what Dunbar gives us, but if he can't hold onto the ball, it doesn't matter how good he his, you can't use him.

I care. But I think it's easier to fix fumble issues vs vision issues.

heck why not use both of them in the backfield at the same time? is there no more creativity with this franchise anymore?????

Nah, this board is fickle. It only takes one or two games for most to draw a conclusion.

Completely on the same page with you. I certainly haven't given up on Murray.. I agree he has the tools, he just needs to be coached a little better.

It's not hard to get back in this fans good graces, start hitting holes, start making the first defender miss and start getting all the yards that are out there for. Start moving the chains and give us a few 100yd games. I'll be back on the Murray train in a heart beat.
All we want as fans is execution and results.

Exactly. I don't doubt the guys physical ability. He just has to start making plays when they are there.

They all started out so promising as did Murray. There's still hope for him to be the complete back we all long for.

This is one of the pics I tried to post but failed

the pic of the right side run against KC is one I spotted in live action. Bewildering why he could not see the open field to his right... I would have hit that hole on straight fear of being tackled and gained at least 15 yards before scurrying out of bounds, and I'm 42.

Murray is what he is, a hard runner with poor vision. Vision isn't something you can fix at this point in his career. Only way to make him effective is to actually create holes directly in front of his running lane.

Sad cuz the OL is clearly better this year and the hole is rarely ever where it's "Supposed" to be.

Give Dunbar more carries. If he fumbles one more time this whole freaking season then I'd move him down the depth chart.
