IRVING, Texas – One of the rookie free agents who seemingly had a shot to stick on the roster is likely out for the season.

Rookie guard
Jarrod Pughsley suffered a torn biceps injury and has already been placed on waived/injured. The undrafted free agent from Akron had plenty of size at 6-4, 308 and was one of the players to watch out for to make the roster.

Instead, the Cowboys have already replaced his spot on the roster with Darius Morris, who also participated in the three-day minicamp on a tryout basis.

However, Morris (6-3, 310) is not a true rookie, entering the NFL in 2011. A standout at Temple, he spent time with the Texans in 2011 but did not play in a game.

Since he's waived injured I assume Dallas can add him to IR to keep his rights for the year ... if the Cowboys think he's got potential.

Here's the rule:

Waived/Injured: When a team waives an injured player any other team may claim him. If a player clears waivers the player is immediately reverted to IR or the team will negotiate an injury settlement to allow the player to pursue other opportunities with another club.

Yeah, in the offseason they don't have the regular IR. They either keep a guy on the 90 man roster and wait until the regular IR window opens or use this method.

I assume from the timing of the announcement that Pughsley wasn't injured during practice, which were non-contact anyway. So, did he hurt himself in the weight room? If so, was it just a freak injury? Or is this more evidence that the strength and conditioning coaching staff is inadequate? I doubt we ever find out the specific details surrounding the injury, but if the hamstrings start popping again, something needs to be done.

It's amazing. It seems every year the Cowboys set new records for injurues.
Only on our team are so many UDFA's likely to compete for a spot...
I wish Cowboys fans could stop and have perspective for once...
Amen.

We had a lot of injuries relative to the league in 2012. Last year we were middle of the pack. For several years before 2012, we had a pretty extraordinary run of good injury luck, to the point that people who analyze this stuff were wondering if there was something the Cowboys organization was especially good at in the health/conditioning area.

And yeah, all teams are excited about their UDFAs competing for spots at this time of year.

Yesterday, a bull died mysteriously from severe, explosive diarrhea. Now I know why.

It's amazing how some of the folks in here can say absolutely nothing to prove their case or point, so they go into attack mode. Or try the dumb comedian role....hilarious...

This kid was not drafted for a ton of reasons. If people were very excited about him competing for a very important roster spot, we are in very deep poop, and in worst shape than I thought...

I doubt it had anything to do with the training staff, he hasn't had much time with them yet.
It would have to be from any type of training or conditioning before hand.
Most likely just one of those bad timing injuries.
I wonder how many other teams have had players having injuries too.

The bull's alive? It's a miracle!

Oh wait. It was a postmortem fart only.

Lighten up. No one penciled Pughsley in for the Hall.

that's pushing it a bit much at this point...IMO anyway.

I think Leary is better than he is given credit for and he has plenty of room to continue to get better if his knee holds up. He is still young with plenty of upside. With the team mentioning that Turner would have been the pick in the third round if it wasn't for the trade up, the knee could be more of an issue than has been reported though.

Or they see Martin moving to OT in the future.
