Here's a video that I just put up from my YouTube channel, the 5 most QB's with the most to prove entering training camp. I have Dak at 5, my colleague has him at number 1.

Thoughts?

I don't think a QB in only his second season "has a lot to prove." I just want him to progress and employ the full playbook with his first 3 seasons.

The QBs that need to show up are Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Ryan Tannehill, Blake Bortles, and Marcus Mariotta.

You're right that Dak doesn't really have anything to prove, but some in the media are already predicting a sophomore slump. He will be closely watched, especially early on. So the narrative is that he has something to prove and any and all mistakes will be used against him.

I don't think Dak should be at the top or number five level to prove. He does have to prove last year was not a fluke but not top five level proof. I agree with Cam. Bortels has had two top ten statistical seasons in a row. Cousins? really...don't agree with this at all. Have you looked at his stats the past two years? He is legit and has nothing to prove imo. Your boy does't even know Dak was drafted in the 4th round? What kind of show is this? I will give you kuddos for Goff...how does the number 1 pick not make both lists? Anyway...here is my list with the most to prove.

1. Cam--last four seasons have been up and down. It's time to prove he is in the elite class and put several great seasons together or will be known as this generations Vick.
2. Goff--last year's number 1 makes Moore look like Brady.
3. Lynch--an undrafted FA QB is playing over a highly sought after 1st rd talent.
4. Tannehill--could be this guys last chance to prove he is more than a back up QB.
5. Wentz--a decent rookie year but no records were set.
Honorable mentions: Bradford, Rivers, Stafford, Winston, Marriotta, Bortels, Ryan, Dak.

It is relative to expectations and his performance last year. People are calling him a top ten QB, others are saying he will have a sophomore slump and can't live up to last year. With the success we had last year, he has a lot to prove in just his 2nd year to prove if he is a RG3 type one year fluke or not.

I don't think there's any question the dude is poised for greatness, but he has to prove it in a lot of peoples eyes.

By the way, I know the quality of the video sucks, and there's no editing done. It's done using a live stream via Google Hangouts, so it makes editing and quality a bit of an issue.

  1. Tom Brady
Everyone will be hating on him again. Questioning his greatness. With one more Super Bowl win there can be no argument. So much pressure for a late round draft pick. He's got football pressure. Paparazzi pressure. Giselle pressure. I feel bad for him. The ultimate underdog story! From nothing to everything.

People think it's easy being good looking. Let me tell ya. It's hard. Very very hard. That coupled with football pressures.

I don't recall if Brady had to go through this or not, but Dak is going to have to fight through his draft position in the eyes of alot of people for a few years. If Dak had been drafted in 1st round and had the year he had, most people would have him in the HOF already.

I've already stated this somewhere else earlier.

I think Dak will

> pass TDs slightly
> ints for sure
< pass rating, but not by too much
> pass yards slightly
Come close to matching his passing TD- Int differential (which was great)

All vs what I suspect will be a tougher schedule

What's it going to be then, eh?

A lot of people seem to think that Winston has already arrived.

I don't see it. He has just as much to prove as any of these mentioned.

And he has no excuses now with a revamped bunch of weapons around him.

I would kill for Prescott to have players like Jackson, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard added to his targets.

How could a QB like Alex Smith be #2? He is what he is - the ultimate bus driver. He isn't a franchise QB. He has a very big cap number next year. That is why they drafted his replacement. Smith is only capable of doing so much. The Chiefs know all this. There really isn't anything Smith can do this year to save his job short of winning a Super Bowl.

Well Brady won the SB in his first year as a starter so that helps.

Mariota has improved during his two years in the league and really has a weak receiving group, imo.

If you look at his stats, his season last year was not too far off from Daks, believe it or not.

26 Pass TDs
9 ints
(17 differential)
96 QB rating

Given the lack of real weapons around him...not bad at all.

And heres some trivia...
Mariota has never thrown a redzone int in the NFL.

The obvious giuys are

  • Bortles...hes out if he doesnt deliver strong this year
  • Goff...just needs to show growth.. he gets a rookie buffer.. If he stinks again, the bust noise will be much louder. Getting drafted so high ups the anty.
  • Wentz...Maybe....not nearly as much as Goff. But they will expect growth with high draft slot.
  • Tannehill.
  • Maybe Tyrod Taylor with the new contract
Not sure what to make of Alex Smith. Hes continued to improve, but the ceiling is close to being in. That guy has been so blessed to have played for teams with strong defenses
That and a run game make life SO much easier

Here's my list:

Cam - Overhyped from day 1.

Winston

Luck - The most overhyped QB in the NFL.

Wentz - Being the #2 overall pick and having the second half of the season last year fall apart, yet still receiving high praise puts the "Prove It Target" squarely on his back.

Goff - Rams handed you the brass ring, #1 overall, and you lost it somewhere between hugging up on Goodell and your first start.

Yep. Smith, if anything, is stalling the Cheifs efforts to get to the next level.

I agree. Winston has to prove he can take the next step and take care of the ball.
Add Goff and Wentz to the list, maybe Eli as he sucks it up and they may start looking to replace him
