The one play I miss, is that weird TE roll from Bruce Coslett's playbook. Someone needs to let linehan know about it.

I think they called it the "oh **** screen" or something. When the opposing LB saw the QB throwing to a wide open TE who seconds ago was on the ground, he would yell "Oh ****"

I think it worked every time to Jackie Harris

Anybody translate what I Right 142 Y Basic means?

Wow, what an in for a football X and O wannabe to respond to!

We run an Air Coryell hybrid system but with ZBS rather than power blocking if you will. Coryell is famous for reintroducing the I formation during a time when spread backs were most common. So not surprising to see an I formation of the RBs. I think right here is where the backs run off tackle in the B gap or 3 hole.

Coryell_Route_Tree.jpg

The above is a Coryell route tree and is pretty commonly used thruout the league. The primary route is the go route or the 9 route. The 142, as another said, is the routes of the receivers. The numbered route terminology of the Air Coryell system contrasts with the WCO where routes are route types and can have some strange names.

I think the 1 route is more a hitch route so it would be angled back more toward the QB. So if you call 142 then the outside receivers run the 1 and 2 routes and the TE would run the 40 route. Here the TE runs about 10 yards downfield then does your basic in route or a long drag. I don't know what the word Basic means here. Perhaps it means the basic tree routes. Or it could mean the RBs run their basic play which in the Coryell system is a dive between the G and T or the three hole.

I do know what the one forty two means though and that's above.

Yes, the TE intentionally falls down, then jumps up to make the catch while the defense has abandon coverage on him.

Why is Quincy Carter all of the sudden, relevant again? Is he trying to cash in on present day Cowboy success? The guy got fired from one of the best jobs in America because he was an Idiot, and hasn't played in over a decade. Why are we talking about Quincy Carter? Somebody help me understand.

No offense to WG. She is my only link to the twitter world

Pretry sure Witten was a backup then. Dan Campbell was the starter.

Campbell was the starter; however, Witten played quite a bit and was open on several plays. Carter threw an interception while targeting Witten who was wide open on one play. Just a huge underthrow.

But can you explain the call?
"I Right" = I formation, with TE lined up to the right

"142"= route combination for backs and receivers

"Y basic" simple seam route for TE to split two deep safeties

Actually in this offense at the time 142 isn't the route combination it's play action. The "1" indicates play action off of their 42 call. Y Basic can tell the backs and receivers what the route concept is. It's based more on memorization than always being assigned a number.
