Is it my imagination, or is his footwork awful this season?

He's constantly doing this thing where he sorta gets his feet together and almost stands on his toes and pushes the ball out over the offensive line, like a basket ball free throw.

I don't recall him doing this last year.

Juke he's always moved like the Frankenstein monster... but this year it's all the time.

Juke if you watch even in the past his foot work has always been inconstient and is generally horrible.

He throws from his back foot way to often which is why his throws get wild sometimes.

His overall mechanics are sloppy and always have been.

The team does not seem to really respond to him

And do you notice how his mechanics (especially footwork) go to freaking hell when he's pressured? I've seen him for a year and a half now and I notice that every game where the line is having problems blocking, he gets that nervous half-step to his game, starts patting the ball more, just looks like a nervous wreck back there. I really think a lot of it is mental as much it is his lack of mobility.

...is terrible. It's really the speed of his feet. When he is pressured and on the move he can't move his gunboats fast enough to set his feet for a throw. That's why we see so many throws off his backfoot or off balance.

He knows how to throw a football, he just isn't fast enough to set his feet under pressure.

His faults are obvious. The forum is all over the problems. My complaint is we all know the issues, why aren't we designing gameplans to disrupt the defences with looks they don't expect to see.

Something like a protected rollout. Something no one would expect.

or the "Pat Pat", as soon as he feels the slightest pressure he gets happy feet. That last sack killed me, vets are not supposed to make that mistake

He has not been the same since the last preseason game. His whole delivery is off...it's like he does'nt even get a full range of motion anymore, he just 1/2 arms it.

I noticed that he takes really a bunch of really small steps on quick drops, instead of taking 3 long strides, setting and releasing like a QB is supposed to. If you are going to dare the other team to blitz, you have to execute the quick throw.

The other thing I noticed is he has this wierd throwing motion when there is pressure up the middle. It kind of looks like Kareem Abdul Jabbar shooting a hook shot. He has some horrific pocket awareness. When you've got pressure, you have to move up or over and give yourself room to step into it. It's not so much that he's a statue... other statues do this just fine. Trent Green, Bulger, Brady, Manning & Manning... those are statues that know how to use a pocket.

His throwing motion appears to be getting worse as well. He seems to just flick his wrist these days

This is my biggest complaint about Bledsoe - that he has so little 'pocket presence'.

After all these years, he just doesn't move up into it (when it's there, I mean) like other 'classic' pocket passers.

Some of the guys you name, tho, are fairly agile, especially Brady. What gets me is Bledsoe doesn't even have the fluidity in the pocket of some notorious true stone statues, like Kerry Collins even.

Never thought I'd see fluidity and Kerry Collins in the same sentance unless it was alcohal related

I've never pretended to be an expert on things like that, but it did seem to me that Drew is different this year. Maybe I just didn't notice it before, but he hops into all of his throws right now, and there are some things that just don't look right. I hope he gets it fixed...

Here's what I know - McNabb made two HUGE (50yd plus) throws when he was being pressured. So it IS possible to make plays, even when you get pressured.

BINGO.

He hops.

That's exactly it.

And it looks awful...and the results are worse.

Me neither. :lmao2:

Bledsoe is even more lead footed than Kent Graham was, if you remember him. A notorious Frankenstein.

Stepping into a throw his footwork is great. At almost everything else he is lacking.

Phil Simms pointed out, a few weeks back, that more than ever it's important for a QB to buy a fraction of a second in the pocket because of the new rules for pass coverage.

It only requires a step in the pocket.

And you're right, that's exactly what McNabb did.
