so if we take and make him a june 1st cut what would the cap hit be?

Lets say we draft Ramsey in the first and maybe move jones to corner and ramsey plays Safety. Scandrick comes back and looks good and is the starter with jones. Then we have claiborne as the 3rd corner. (scandrick will move to the slot in 3+ cb sets. I think the coaches love church too much to bench im right now in a young secondary so i think he will probably have a starting job unless he gets injured.

June 1st is irrelevant now. Players can be cut before June 1st but still be designated as June 1st cuts for salary cap purposes.

I would bet part of the pay cut was to guarantee part of the money
Besides that why would you pressure a player to take a pay cut then cut him?
The reason to get the pay cut is to have the player

Carr isn't going anywhere. Regardless what folks think of him.. He's been a pillar of what Garrett invisions in the RKG, he's started every game, and now he's being paid like a #2 CB. The first couple of years in Dallas when he had a DL playing in front of him.. He had 3 ints each year. That would have lead our team last year. He's a solid CB. The only question I have is.. What is Dallas planning to do with the extra cash?

Pay the rookie draft class, I'd imagine.

Overthecap.com has us a just over 12mil tho. Rookie class will only cost roughly 5-7mil.. I'm thinking a veteran DE after the draft. Possibly a little more dough to convince James Jones or get Mincey back to stabilize the DE spot till the knuckleheads get back after game 4

Carr's too good a player to cut for what it would save us. He's our starter.

The rookie class should cost about $9.4M.

Carr is a class individual, a cowboys fan since a child, and he has (I think) really tried to play hard. I never see him give up on a play. He got destroyed by several good receivers and I think lost some confidence. Not to mention, it isn't like the Defensive line was knocking the QB's around the last couple of years to help the back end either. No excuses though, he hasn't played up to his salary, not even close but he is out there every Sunday and if some pieces fall in line, he might do a better job the next couple seasons. They just need to add more corners and hope one or two can supplant him if he continues to be mediocre but for now, he is a body that fills a need.

They are giving him a $1 million bonus (due 5/1). When a player gives back money the team gives back in guaranteed or bonus as well.

I thought Jason Jones was still in play

The rookie class should cost about $9.4M.

For cap purposes you have to subract around 500k per player becasue they are knocking someone off the 51 man roster.

So for 9 draft picks it will take around 4.5-5m in cap space to sign all of them.

After his pay cut he is due 6m this year with a cap hit of 10.7 if he hits his incentives.

If they June 1st cut him before May 1st his cap hit would be 4.7m this year and 2.7m next year.

If he plays out the season he will be an UFA but will leave the team with 2.7m in dead money for 2017.

I think they would keep Ramsey @ CB initially instead of moving Jones who was showing improvement as the FS. By the mid-end of the season, and Carr/Mo are performing adequately, I can see them then moving Ramsey over to SS. Just can't see them taking a player @ 4 and not start him @ CB initially. Other FOs maybe, but not ol JJ.

It would be a very bad look to cut him. Won't happen.

That would prevent any player from entertaining a pay cut while this regime is here. Agents would not forget that. Without any years added on, he was probably given assurances beforehand anyways.

Carr is not getting cut after accepting a pay cut. To the best of my memory, Jerry Jones has never done something like that. From what I hear, Jerry and the team like Carr as a person, he does good things for the community, and his play is decent to good in the team's eye (not mine).

Say what you want about Jerry but I have never suspected him of sneaky, stab-in-the-back tactics. Jerry treats his players well, sometimes too well. There is a reason why almost all players would like to be a Cowboy either through FA or the draft. Even though some hate Jerry, part of that reason for players wanting to come here is because of Jerry and the way he and the organization treat players on a personal and professional level.

Why will he have dead money since he is playing out his contract?

His actual contact was 6 years 60m with the sixth year being voidable. This was for the planned restructure of his 2nd year salary.
