Does anyone know an answer to the following:

1. If a team franchises a player and that player gets hurt, is that salary guaranteed or can the player be cut and the team forgo paying him beyond the date of injury. IIRC, I think its guaranteed and Dallas had to pay Spencer the full salary even though he got hurt early last year.

2. Could Dallas redo Romo's deal and lower the salary as well as the guarantee or once his deal was made, is a team stuck with the terms they initially agreed to? I know they can add guaranteed money and restructure but I'm wondering if a player was willing to cooperate, could the team lower the salary and reduce or remove previously guaranteed amounts. (I'm not asking about the likelihood of this or whether he should or shouldn't, so please don't derail)

As a throw away comment, it sure would help negotiations with Dez, etc if Romo was willing to restructure and reduce his salary and guaranteed amount to not only free up salary cap space but to show that even the best player was leaving money on the table in order to sign other players and field a team capable of winning a Super Bowl.

Dirk signed an under market contract with the Mavs and I believe Brady did as well with the Pats. This a rare occurrence and would be awesome if Romo did this and it created a domino effect where a bunch of players all chipped in a bit.

I firmly believe reasonable financial sacrifices would be more than made up for with the greater marketing opportunities that come from playing on the center stage that is the Dallas Cowboys. This would only be enhanced if they were able to win a super Bowl. Just my humble opinion, no need to get into a war about whether a player should or shouldn't do this
