My god, people can't be serious...keep Romo as a back up making 20 million, franchise tag Leary...

Romo is scheduled to make 14mil base salary next year. His pro-rated SB and deferments are what makes it seem large. If he leaves, the Cowboys still have to eat his
SB money no matter what. If you make him a June 1st cut you can spread the cap hit over two years.

I don't get all the Green chatter. Guy hasn't been healthy hardly at all. I'm pretty much losing hope on that one real quick. I get that some players are worth the experiment but how much time do you really want to wrap up into a player before you realize it is probably better to just cut your losses?
What sucks is that he is a pretty good player. Would be a top end RT if he could be counted on

I wonder what the status of his degenrative knee is? Everyone seemed to forget about that...

No, I didn't forget about it. It's part of the reason I started this thread. As I said, we haven't paid the guy diddly the last few years and he's played at a very high level. Give the man his just due for a year and keep our Oline together. That way we can make another serious run next year. He'll be happy and so will we.

he would have the exact same amount of snaps if he was healthy.......he is injured again but he did real well when he was in.......just like Collins and just like Leary........Free is just not any good......I would rather count on Green in the future than pay Free 5m to suck

*IF* at the end of the year, the Cowboys staff grade out Leary really high, the smart play might be to try to resign Leary, and if they do, then trade Collins for a really good draft pick. *IF* they do not grade Leary high enough or they feel Collins is around or above Leary's level, then the smart play would be to not resign Leary and just go with Collins as the future.

The problem with Leary is that he will benefit from being part of the Cowboys offensive line. Any player from the Cowboys OL would likely be heavily valued in free agency, maybe even over-valued due to supply-and-demand of good OL players. Parnell benefited from this. It will probably come down to how bad Leary wants the money versus how much he likes being part of one of the best, if not the best, OL in the NFL. Given he was benched, not for his play, but because they though another player *could* be better than him, and he wasn't happy about it, I suspect he will take the money and go elsewhere.

That said, I really like Leary though and wish we could keep him, but I won't blame him if he does not return.

Can I give shout out to Parnell and him indirectly getting us Dak Prescott.

I agree. Free sucks. I don't get why some think he's the glue that keeps this oline together.

I think it's more likely they resign Doug Free to a friendly 1 or 2 year deal rather than resigning Leary for the price it will cost. Slide Collins back in at guard next year and your set with your starters.

Lets see how the rest of the season unfolds. If Free gets chewed up and spit out for the rest of the season and he costs us a game or to or god forbid a hurt QB then he needs to be replaced. He is without a doubt the worst starter we have on the line and its not even close.
