My friends and I are having a heated discussion online about the dominance of the AFC over the NFC. Most of their teams belong in the AFC and they are making the usual argument that the AFC has been dominant and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

I need help with some compelling argument to say otherwise and maybe some stats on games played AFC vs. NFC for the last few years.

Any other suggestions or arguments will be much appreciated. I am out-numbered and can use the help. :(

1. The NFC and AFC were .500 against eachother last year (pretty sure, but the NFC may actuall have won more than the AFC last year).

2. An NFC team won the superbowl last year.

Nuff said.

What is dominate? Winning Superbowls or blowing teams out in Superbowls?

The 60s
NFC 2 wins
AFC 2 wins
Average score
NFC 20.5
AFC 15.8

The 70s
NFC 2 wins
AFC 8 wins
Average score
NFC 16.5
AFC 20.2

The 80s
NFC 8 wins
AFC 2 wins
Average score
NFC 31.2
AFC 18.5

The 90s
NFC 8 wins
AFC 2 wins
average score
NFC 31.6
AFC 21.8

The 00s
NFC 2 wins
AFC 6 wins
Average score
NFC 20.8
AFC 24.4

The margins aren't that great for this AFC dominance. They have won more Superbowls, but haven't really dominated the games. Not like the NFC did during the 80s and 90s. The NFC just knocked off the so called greatest team in history, so I don't think the AFC should be considered better. The league as a whole is pretty even.

Tell them to believe their eyes and not their ears.

The AFC has been better and I even think they were better last year even though the NFC won the superbowl.

I say that and I believe the NFC had a better record over the AFC last year but I still like the AFC's depth last year better.

However its a new year and the top 3 teams in the league are possibly all in this conference/ East division.

If your figures are correct, in the number of wins per decade I count NFC 22 wins and AFC 20 wins. Another straw in the NFC hat.

The AFC isn't better than the NFC. Period.

Like I said, the AFC and NFC had a .500 record against eachother last year, and so far this year the NFC is 4-2 vs the AFC.

When you say "Believe your eyes, not your ears" you should take your own advice.

I think the AFC for the last few years had the best 2 to 3 teams in the NFL I think that is changing as the NFC teams have become much stronger

And last year my eyes made me believe the AFC's elite were better than the NFC's elite.

Regardless of what the record was I believe the AFC had the better conference. 10-6 teams weren't even making the playoffs.

And this may sound moronic but I still think the Patriots were better than the Giants last year and if those 2 exact same teams played again I would pick the Patriots to win.

This year I do believe it has swung though and I like the NFC's elite a lot better than the AFC's. Even the NFC North is stepping up.

What does the "Elite" have to do with the original poster's question?

It doesn't mention anything about "are the top AFC teams better than the top NFC teams", it says AFC and NFC. That's it.

Because once you get past the elite teams in the AFC and NFC the rest is a wash with avg teams who are equal regardless of being AFC or NFC.

It's all about QBs.

Which ever league has the better QBs in it, at any given point in time, that conference is probably going to be the dominant one.

Did YOU even bother reading the original post in this thread? The OP doesn't mention anything about "Elite". He says AFC/NFC. That's it.

Ok thats great but when you ask me who is better I take both Quality and depth into account.

I think last year the AFC's quality & depth were greater than the NFC's.

This year I think it has shifted.

From the original post (you must have missed it):

Either way, the OP didn't ask for your opinion on what should and should not be considered in the argument, he mention AFC and NFC. Not AFC Elite vs NFC Elite and nothing about Quality vs Depth. Just AFC/NFC. That's it.

And the AFC and NFC when 32-32 against eachother last year, and the NFC won the superbowl.

That's gives the NFC the edge any way you slice it. He's talking about the conferences OVERALL, not just the "Top Teams".

Ok well if his friends said the AFC has dominated the NFC than they deserve a kick to the pills because they obviously blurted it out without knowing the facts.

But if they would have said the AFC is better than the NFC I would have believed them until this year.

So your right, im wrong, but still..... Newman > Suggs WOOOOO

I love Newman, but that argument is debateable.

Both have been very good in their careers. I wouldn't mind having a Suggs opposite Ware... Suggs > Ellis and I don't see him crying about his "Role" every offseason.
