Question for those predicting Horton

Yes that's true, but again, why would Arizona let him walk?

Because it passes him over for head coach for someone else. Most coaches don't end up being too happy in that situation.

I mean I'm not saying that Arizona's new head coach will replace Horton as I think it would be a stupid move considering Horton is a great defensive coordinator. But I've seen it before when new coaches are hired, they usually replace the staff including new coordinators. I'm just surprised Horton hasn't been considered at least a favorite to take over as the head coach in AZ. Just a little surprising to me.

No you're right, it does happen, but from our side of it you don't fire your DC without having your eyes set on an available replacement... And as of now Horton is not available.

Just makes me think he's not the guy we have in mind.

Garrett did want him instead of Ryan back in 2011 so I definitely think he'll keep an eye out for him. It's unlikely considering it seems like they are going to switch to the 4-3 this season based on Garrett's comments.

He is a candidate for that HC job in Arizona. If he doesn't get the job, I am sure he will ask out of his contract.
I thought if the HC was fired the coordinators and staff could opt out.
Not true?

exactly. Horton is not the guy. However, nothing Jerry does surprises me anymore because he has gone full senile.

Yea I remember, and I'm not saying I'd be against it. Horton is a great DC.

But like I said, the timing of everything makes me feel we have someone else in mind.

Don't think so. From what I hear in Arizona he is still under contract. And we cannot offer him the "Assistant" HC as a promotion. Lateral moves are not an option unless he is fired/released.

No, he's still under contract and would need permission from the Cardinals to accept a lateral move to another club.

Boringgggggggg. I would rather have Lovie.

Hortkn is a 3-4 guy. Don't think it's him.

I'm guessing Lovie and his 4-3 defense is more likely. Big Sandy guy. He's been linked to the Cowboys ever since he took the Bears to the Superbowl.

If you're going to stick with the 3-4, might as well kept Ryan.

Horton would be an interesting hire.

Kirby Smart is a name that would interest me.

Dan Quinn maybe.

Lovie will get a head coaching job. Phili and Cleveland are both going to interview him and Arizona will also.

I have no doubt Lovie will get a lot of interviews, because he would satisfy the Rooney Rule and has the resume to not look like a blatant Rooney Rule token interview. But Lovie will be seen as a retread, and a boring vanilla retread at that. Anyone who isn't an offensive guy is always on the outside looking in for a Head Coaching job. Franchises want offense to draw fans to the stadiums, and Lovie's offenses were putrid every season in Chicago. Philly and Browns have talked to no one but offensive minded head coaches up to this point. That's what they want.

I hope its not Kiffen and his tampa 2. It will take awhile to get this defense built for Kiffen type of defense

Then why are they interviewing Lovie then?

Definitely be interesting to see if they move to a new scheme.

4-3:

Hatcher/Crawford - Lissemore - Rat - Ware

? - Lee - Carter

I think the 4-3 is a better fit for Wilbur, maybe as a SOLB.

Still need to invest in DL though. That strong side end and DT rotation won't do it IMO.

I am just going to say this. I will not gripe if it is Ray Horton because he can flat out coach. But I am fairly sure it is Lovie Smith.
