Most scouting reports indicate that he will be a better player at OG in the pros, but how do you think he'll project as a RT in the pros?

I've read conflicting reports on this. Some say his arms are a bit too short and his footwork isn't really good enough to play RT in the pros. And that's he's a much better run blocker than pass blocker.

On the other hand, I've read that he can play well at either position on the right side. He basically just needs some work on his technique at RT.

Opinions?

Everything I have read says this guy is a guard in the pros.

He was a 3-year starter in a major conference (Big 12) at RT. Combine showing indicates he's more than athletic enough to play RT. I think he can be a solid RT BUT an excellent OG.....

I think he's not the only OG in the Draft and if we only focus on him because he played at Texas we're probably going to be disappointed.

Although I am sure it is the case that some are interested in him because he played at Texas...I am sure even more are interested in him because he is a name and a projected 1st rounder.

I know. But you don't even see other OGs mentioned other than an occasional blurb.

yeah cause we all know Jerry Jones track record for drafting Longhorns......like 1 in his entire time of owning the team.......WR Wane McGarity...

He has passed on Tony Brackens, Blake Brockermeier, Nathan Vasher, etc.

Just because you hate the Horns, please don't try to bring that kind of reasoning to the table, cause you are too intelligent of a poster to know JJ could give a rats a55 if he went to UT or some podunk community college......just as long as the prospect can ball.

Hell if anything being from UT would mean Jerry would pass on him, don't you think....

He is a good player regardless if he played for Texas or not. I admit I'm a horns fan and have seen a lot of Blalock but I don't judge any college player based on where he played, heck guys like Griffin and Ross I would stay away from despite many reports that Ross will go in the 1st rd. Blalock is a guy who should be on the board when we pick and if Dallas wants to go Gaurd with that pick then there is no doubt he is a good one.

Where do you get the idea that I hate the Horns? I happen to like them a lot.

I see colleges as stores to shop for Christmas (meaning the Draft). I have liked Texas players many times and like Blaylock very much.

In fact, I am already on record saying we have to get Colt McCoy. Even if he is never more than an NFL backup, that name is too Cowboy for him not to play in Dallas.

Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't. I'm saying we shouldn't put him on so high a pedastal that not getting him means this draft was a failure.

I would agree he is an option that could be there for Dallas if they want to go OL. Dallas may very well look at another player at another position. How the draft falls and who is on the board I think will dictate who we end up getting

why Justin Blalock was selected as an All American for two years, as an offensive tackle. That said, he was moved inside, during his senior season... for a reason. At 6-4, or just under, he doesn't have the wing span to make up for a slight mobility disadvantage he has against true speed rushers. He has good technique as well as abilities, but at the professional level, and over the long haul, his strength would be inside along the offensive line. His greatest long term earning potential is there, as is his long term accomplishments. Short term, yea, he could be a right tackle. That probably would catch up with him although...as larger and even more mobile outside guys continually come up to the NFL. Just as motivated as he is, at the professional level. He is a talent, but may be a tad overrated in the first round, due to his tackle experience at the collegiate levels. That he is a very solid candidate for an offensive lineman, should not be at question. His draft place, could be although.....

No one considered drafting Larry Allen as an OT either....we got him in round 2 as an OG....name me an OT in the history of the game with shorter arms than LA???

The guy can either play it or he can't....if he's a good pass blocker, he can get it done.

....

If Larry Lacewell is not yapping in Jerry's ear, then Ireland will pick the right guy regardless of what school he's from.

I wanted Blayclock before Davis was signed. Blaylock will be a very good guard in a short amount of time. I don't think he will make a good tackle. If Dallas lets Colombo walk I am going to be praying that Levi Brown unexpectadly slips to the 22nd pick which could happen. Dallas needs an OT even if Colombo is resigned as Adams will probably be let go. The situation will be extrememly crazy if both Meachem and Brown are there because Dallas needs both a OT and WR in the worst way.

He's also extremely intelligent. Strong and smart. I'll take it.

And by the way, there is no Y in his name. Blalock. Like Hank Blalock for the Rangers.

Blalock moved to guard after Cedric Dockery(Derrick's brother) blew out his acl and was lost for the season. He did so because Blalock's backup at tackle was better than Dockery's backup at guard.

That is true. Texas wanted to put their best lineman out there and Blalock clearly was the top lineman on the team and his versatility helped Texas do that.
