Question regarding FIFA 16 for Xbox 360

Do you have to have an XBOX live account to play CAREER mode? When I set up my team for a season and want to save any progress made, it tells me to go and create a profile in settings. When I think I created a profile, it still will not allow me to save my season.

I do not want to have to sign up and buy an online account to play career mode. I don't have time for that. Am I completely missing a step here?
