Question: Why 46 on game day?

I think the whole 63 man squad should dress.

If you use Practice Squad guys you have to immediately make it right after the game, roster wise.

At that number of players a couple extra injured guys would be mitigated. For example 60 healthy guys vs 58 is not as big a deal as 49 healthy guys vs 52.

They talk about safety but force hurt guys to play until they become injured. This would almost allow for ST specialists.

Over and over this nonsense.

You dress 63 and you employee the most absurdly niche players possible. The inside kick specialist. The extra long snapper. The long fg guy.

Dumb.

Been reading some of coachscout's older posts due to all the love he was getting on here, and definitely some solid insight, something you can never have enough of (honestly as much hate as Brian Broaddus gets for some reason, I love how he breaks down the film of a game compared to what the rest of the DC.com editors write about). One thing that stuck out was his mid season report from 2012....wow, the names on there....Costa, Berny (starting), Felix Jones, Miles Austin, Vickers, Cook, Nate Livings....ouch, it's a damn miracle we even made it to 8-8 all those years. And it's crazy to see how much Romo has improved again from the start of that season, when it seemed like something was off with him. He's much more mature, calm and.....smarter these days.

Any way, hopefully with the team being more competitive now, you'll have the time to drop by more often.

In general I avoid this place. The rampant negativity is ridiculous and I just can't handle it. I pop in a few times a day to read, I pick and choose very carefully which posts/posters I read, and then I leave. My life is very very very different from back when I was posting here anyway, I would never have the time to do what I used to do here.

Well, we're better off with you here.

In defense of "this place", I would challenge anyone to find a sports related forum, especially ones dedicated to a specific team, that does not lean toward the negative. It's just the nature of the beast.

This is exactly why I never start threads, and rarely post. It's gotten really bad, and I just want to get the best news available. Great site for that, but not for contributing and posting for sure.

Unfortunately that whole scout thing turned out to be something of a scam. In a very roundabout way I was working for the Raiders, but it wasn't directly, and it was never gonna go anywhere. Once I figured out I was being taken advantage of and lied to, I left the company. I'm now a local radio personality in my hometown (not sports). I have a daughter now as well. I don't write breakdowns of the game anywhere anymore. ND21 has offered me a position at all22breakdown.com and I have considered it many times. But after learning about the scam I was involved in, I feel like something of a fraud and can't see why anyone would care what I have to say about players at this point.

I for one LOVED reading your write-ups. If you ever do post them somewhere please let us know. I enjoyed them.

I have always felt if you made the team 53 man roster you should be part of the game day roster.

I encourage all to be positive to the very knowledgeable members who come here to contribute. If only we could pick their brains rather than being confrontational.

We have run off almost every single one with the pounding by some members in that negative light. Not only is that shameful, as the personal opinion of a member not staff, but it hurts the site in a huge way speaking as staff.

Why can teams only have 46 players active on game day? It doesn't really make sense to me. Is there a particular reason for teams being required to have 7 inactive players every game? It just seems kind of useless. Why can't teams just take all 53 players as active? I've never understood this and never heard any type of reasoning for it. It feels like an unnecessary numbers crunch when you're having to leave talented role-players inactive. How nice would it be to have all 4 RBs active on Sundays without having to sacrifice at, say, DT?

This has been hashed out here several times the past few weeks.

The 7 inactive players serve as a short term IR. The NFL wants each team to have the same amount of healthy players to start the game.

In baseball they have to put player on short term DL and it just makes it more complicated for the teams. The 7 inactive players don't have to be declared until 90 minutes before game time.

The actual number 7 is debatable. Does it need to be that many? Early in the season when everyone is healthy it is difficult to determine who to make inactive but later in the season it's normally fairly easy as there will be several injured players on the list.

Fans love to debate this topic but it's not really a big deal, IMO. I'm much more interested in expanding the 53 man limit in order to better retain developmental players.

The negativity has gone way down, of course a successful season will do that and some good posters have come on board since when you posted your absolutely brilliant observations.
Even I don't think I was posting then... Just lurking. Shame.

Is there anywhere I can continue to read your stuff, or is that all legit for teams now and unavailable for the outside eyes?
I do remember you being hired as a legit scout... darn you.

I don't care what anyone here thinks- I looked forward to your posts like nobody else's. Bar none.

This is what its like with the negativity down?

Dumb??

So I guess every college football team and most high school teams are dumb then. I don't see any of those 'roster' problems on those levels.

NFL teamsdon't even carry a back-up Kicker. Pull a hammy in the first quarter and the team is in big trouble.

You can disagree but please leave the snarkasm at the door.

This subject is brought up all the time on NFL radio, and most NFL people agree that it should be increased by 2 and making it mandatory that one of those 2 be an O-Lineman. They tell many stories about teams only dressing 7 OL and forcing them to play injured because 2 or 3 get injured during the course of the game. They say that if the NFL is really for the safety of the players they would increase the game day roster. But it has not happened, the competition committee has too many powerful members who don't want to change it.

I would definitely be in favor of a requirement of 9 active o-linemen per game.

Look at this week for a great example.

DAL is down Dez, Leary and RGregory.
PHI has no serious injuries at this time.

I would still rather have all 53 of my guys than have PHI have to limit itself to 46, even if PHI had 3 more healthy guys.

If DAL had 6 or 7 guys that couldn't go it still wouldn't help DAL, it would just mean we had a lot of back-ups starting.

I've been on this forum for quite a bit and find it ridiculous that people would leave because of attacks, etc. We talk about our love for a game and get into disagreements, but we can all agree we love the Cowboys.

If this forum was all rosey and lollipops I wouldn't be here. I enjoy hearing both sides of the argument. I also enjoy that when we play like crap, that people say we played like crap. Not just be happy fans and the walking blind.

I truly miss your posts. I really, really value your opinion and your insight. You really shouldn't take your misfortune as a reflection on your ability to evaluate talent. You quickly became one of my favorite posters.

Just like Corso said, please let me know if you do end up posting somewhere again. I would be there. I'd also like info on where/when you're on radio, if it's sports related.

Also, a huge congrats on having a daughter; I became a dad in December. My baby girl Genevieve is growing so fast.

Enjoy your time with your baby daughter. I miss that so much. I dropped of my "baby" girl at college a few weeks ago. I am so proud of her but it really sucks not having her at home. They grow up WAY too fast!!!!
