Insider Analysis
Grade 74
Expert's Take Thornton is a very good athlete playing the linebacker position. He has long arms and very good upper-body strength. He delivers a good blow and is able to get good separation from blockers. He does a good job disengaging and does not stay blocked. He has quick feet and turns his hips very smoothly. He has good running ability and is able to run with a tight end vertically up the seam. He has very good range and the ability to run plays down. He is a sideline-to-sideline player and gets good depth in his zone drops. He has good body control and change-of-direction skills. He has a nose for the ball and is always around the ball. He is a strong tackler who clubs up with his arms. You would like to see him put on more bulk so he can be stronger at the point of attack. He does a good job with play recognition, but is sometimes slow to react. He is not a great blitzer and lacks the stature to be effective coming off the edge. He gets a good break on the ball, but lacks good ball skills. He is a very productive player on special teams and is young enough to show a lot of improvement.
Just curious why he is never mentioned in any FA LB talks
