Possible Back-Field

Julius Jones
Marion Barber
Tyson Thompson
Demitrius Summers< I really like him, he's a runningback that has a chip on his shoulder, and he could really be a steal knowing he has something to prove.

With all of the competition for linebackers and the possible need for a kick off specialist, I just don't see it as that likely that we will keep 4 running backs. That being said, anything can happen in training camp and the preseason.

This could make for some hard decisions for BP come cut time. But it is better for the decisions to be hard for him than for them to be easy. Easy decisions mean you have crap players and it doesn't matter who you cut because you will still have crap players. When you have to start cutting GOOD players then it is good for the team...it sucks to cut them but it is still good for the team that your talent pool is that good.

Probably a PS player. I don't seeing them keepping a 4th RB.
I see them using that roster spot to keep an extra LB, DL, OL, or a Kick off guy if needed.

Is there a limit as to how many you can keep on a practice squad?

We have a similar dilemna as to kickoffs. John Hall is solid for field goals, but rarely kicks it past the 10 yard line.

I believe they upped the limit to 8 players on the PS.

I think you can keep about 8 players on the PS.

With all the DL, LB and TEs on the roster I think we go short at RB - 3 spots. If Tyson doesn't show some more all-around ability this year he probably doesn't make the squad because Green was brought in to be the return man.

My thoughts exactly.

Keylon Kincade has toiled on the practice squad for most of the past two seasons and his number is likely up if a better runner stumbles through the Ranch, IMO.

can TT even be on the PS since he played so many games last year?

isnt there a rule that once a player has played X amount of regular season games he cant go back to the PS?

if thats true and Summers shows any type of flash, thompson is gone. he just does not have the moves or the ability to break tackles that you need in the NFL

We kept 5 RBs at the beginning of last season with Jones, Barber, Thompson, Thomas and Polite.

Trade out Polite for a TE and I can see us keeping 4.

unlikey unless Summers helps in kickoff and punt returns which probably won't happen since we drafted green

Tyson Thompson is ineligible for the practice squad.

I think the limit is somehwere around 10 games and TT logged 15 games last season.

It's the 53 man roster, injured reserve or the door.

No way. Only way he makes the squad is if we suffer an injury or if he somehow beats out Tyson, which is unlikely to happen. With all the depth at other positions and the need for another spot for the kickoff specialist, I just dont see how a 4th RB makes the roster, particularly a developmental type like Summers when we already have another young developmental type in Tyson already on the roster.

At best he makes the PS and replaces Kincade as the #1 RB in the bullpen.

Summers will have to show tremendous potential as a runner with his skills because he isn't big and he isn't fast - that usually doesn't land you a spot on the PS or ST.

I understand why people say Tyson Thompson is a linear runner but he was a rookie last year and he actually put up good numbers on kick returns.

He just needs a little bit of wiggle on KO returns, I could see him as Herschel Walker type of returner.

Unless someone gets hurt, we go with only 3.

Roster spots are becomming much more difficult to earn thanks to Ireland and BP.
