Quinnen Williams and Osa Odighizuwa QB pressures since 2022

Osa was talking about them playing more 5 DL looks.

That would be interesting.

Eze
Clark
Williams
Osa
Fowler/Kneeland

Lots of one on ones when they go 5 down.
Didn't think about them doing this, although we used a five-man line several times against Arizona. When it worked, it was great. When the line couldn't get there quickly, the corners were picked apart (and sometimes they were when the line could get there quickly). Having a player like Williams increases the odds of getting there.

Kneeland can kick rocks…..I’d put Clowney at that end spot. Fowler, Thomas, Winfrey and whoever as backup….kneeland gets worked by TE regularly, dude shouldn’t be out there.

They played 5 DL sets in the AZ game.

They often dropped 1 or 2 DL in coverage while blitzing a LB and/or DB.
Yep. And they got 5 sacks. If the offense had played just average, we would have won that game, but Dak and Co absolutely cratered.

None of the moves fix what is fast becoming huge concerns on offense. Hopefully the bye week is exactly what the Dr ordered

Get healthy. Get focused. Implement some adjustments. It’s a one game season every week from here on out.

Exactly. If you go 5 down, you really dictate some things along the OL forcing them to double Williams to keep him from disrupting.

If Eze and Clowney can win on the outside regularly, the 5 down approach will work

Having Clark, Osa, and Williams along the interior is pretty nasty.

Bonus: If Logan Wilson can captain the D and be a solid green dot guy and line everybody up and sort out the comms issues, the whole unit may take a giant step forward

Eberflus needs to continue to mix up his pressure packages.

Smart Football. When you lack talent you ESPECIALLY need to confuse the other team.
The Niners best 2 players on D are out and their D is still solid because their DC is changing things up( zone blitz’s, safety blitz’s, 5 guys rush, everyone at the LOS just before the snap, etc.)

At the cost of a 2nd round pick . I thought he was going to progress once healthy . Haven’t seen a lot . Too soon to give up on him .

I like the 5-2 alignment, and it generally works well against the run when you have the right bodies for it and can be effective against the pass if the coverage can hold up for a few seconds. That second part is questionable for us and certainly was an issue Monday night. However, the middle of the line has to push the pocket and get in the QB's face for it to be most effective. Williams should help with that.

Exactly. We aren’t gonna magically be the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens D— but these moves can make us more fundamentally sound overall, and create some interesting scheme alignments that can limit what offenses have been doing against us.

I am also concerned about the secondary. The soft coverage and blown assignments have been awful. Getting Overshown and Revel on the field can certainly help, and getting some injured guys back should shore things up.

Bottom line is that this team will need to go 7-1 down the stretch to even sniff the playoffs. That is a massive ask, and the wheels on offense are now shaking too.

But these moves set up nicely for a 2 year window to try and compete under Dak’s contract

I wish they could have gotten Williams when Micah was here. Getting pressure up the middle with Micah outside would have been awesome for the Cowboys.

He was better under Zimmer.

Go figure.
