What round do you think Echols will go in?

I like this player alot for a 3-4 NT. I also think he can be had in later rounds.

He is almost impossible to move, and I have seen him play a few times at Kansas State and he always showed up.

Probably any report you look at on him will say he tires and has trouble staying in shape and is soft in the belly.

BUT

If Jusasek can get a hold of him and he can be motivated at the NFL level Echols could be a real find on day 2 of the draft, especially initially giving Ferguson some breathers.

I haven't seen him but we have a guy like him on our roster. This guy is a Parcells project. If he would get into shape then I'd be all for it. I just don't see a guy changing his stripes that much. We have enough picks to take him in the seventh and put him on the practive squad. But I wouldn't invest that much energy, time and money if he wasn't already in fairly good shape at draft time.

If you are talking about Stanley, IMO he is not even in Echols league, but that is just me. Echols has potential to be a force at NT IMO.

Yeah. Echols supposedly can't play the entire game. I haven't seen him or noticed him so I'm going on what I read. His stamina and work ethic are questioned. If he's still overweight and won't work before the draft then I question him. If he can't do it in college why would he be able to do it in the pros. He apparently starts off games and can't be moved. If he can do that all game then he's a very valuable commodity. If you're talking a seventh or a undrafted FA then ok with me. Sounds like that will be where he goes.

most NTs in this draft have questions about their stamina, they're over 320lbs. so it's to be expected, only an elite, few NTs can play 100% for 80-90 snaps a game, and there are none in this draft

and most NTs are rotated for on passing downs anyways

I was hoping we could draft a DT who could help Ferguson just a little bit this year but the later in the draft we take him the less value he will be to us this year. I think maybe we can get ourselves in the position of drafting either Marcus Thomas or Paul Soliai either in 3rd or 4th round--but I do think both had off-field issues last year.

The one thing that you HAVE to have with a NT is a constant motor. As long as the guy is big enough, mean enough, and with a steady motor he can be a good NT. Does Echols have that motor?

I think odds are pretty decent we take a chance on him in the late rounds. He's a local kid (Ft. Worth area, I think?) and we've liked those guys lately. Parcells was huge on height in players, but I'm sure Wade doesn't fixate on that the same way.

It would be fun to know what Ireland and Co.'s evaluations are on guys like Echols who played in bigtime conferences vs. the huge monster NTs (like Thomas and the former Tennessee guy) that played at the tiny schools. That's got to be a tough call.

I don't know if he has a motor or not. Sounds like he does then gives out. Maybe they used him too much. Maybe if he rotates he can play with enough intensity to be effective. That's for scouts to decide with interviews and film. It sounds as if he wouldn't be a bad pick at 7 considering we have so many.

I realize there are not many 320+ lb college defensive lineman that are cut. However it's not too much to ask them to have enough cardiovascular fitness to not disappear for long stretches. And that does have the caveat of knowing you have to rest most of these real big guys more than others. You can only get your cardiac output but so high for so long. These really huge guys have to be lean enough or they will go into anaerobic metabolism way sooner than others.
