Player 2014 Cap Savings If Cut
DeMarcus Ware
$7,432,250
Nate Livings $2,000,000
Phil Costa $1,500,000
Jermey Parnell $1,500,000
Mackenzy Bernadeau $1,425,832
Jay Ratliff $1,304,000
Dez Bryant $1,250,000
Justin Durant $1,250,000
Bruce Carter $1,036,991
Kyle Orton $995,000

I read this article and a few things caught my eye:
They mention 3 starters on our O-Line that could be gone
They make an interesting case for releasing Orton and drafting QB early

Maybe we use a pick on a QB we can develop? Logan Thomas maybe?

The Orton thing is what really makes some sense. Cutting him and saving almost a Mil while trying to find a Romo replacement, count me in.

I think the two biggest players not back next year will be Spencer and Free.

Those two folks save about 14 million on the cap.

Dez, Ware and Carter are going no where. The rest are probably 50/50.

Carter and Bryant will both see their price tag go way up, eliminating any benefits from the other players on that list being gone.

Plus, Ware will probably get a similar number, and Lee is going to have to be resigned.

The $5 mil penalty being gone will help, but we are far from being comfortable when it comes to the cap.

Scandrick hurts, but you gotta love what he brings to the table. I'm going to love watching he and Webb duke it out. I know Webb will take his spot because of money and his hand may be forced. But I think he rises to the occasion.

It wouldn't surprise me to see JJ lock in Spencer before season end to keep him from hitting the open market. I think we are going to see a great year for him. And I can't imagine us cutting Ware yet unless he has an epic collapse this year or show some major injury issue.

I don't get all the Spencer love around here. I like the guy and he's a decent player but not worth what he's going to want. He is definitely not worth that tag number!

I would be complete against that. That is a cheap price for a guy generally regarded as one of the best backup QBs in the league.

I like the idea of having Orton at a reasonable price, which we do. It all depends on how the cap works out though. At the end of the day Orton is a luxury IMO. He might end up being a cap casualty. I feel like over the next two years we need to find our future QB as well.

I would be, too. I also don't think there's any realistic chance it happens. The QB position is too important, and it's pretty clear to me that Garrett feels that way, too.

I do think we'll draft a developmental QB next year. If he shows promise, the countdown for Orton would start the year after that.

That would be very Jerry Jones like. Lock up a guy over the age of 30 so it comes back to hurt us in a couple of years. We need to thank Spencer for his services and let him find another team to overpay for him. A younger replacement needs to be found.

How about that guy from A&M?

you mean that guy that will probably be a top 10 pick? i believe we'll be a playoff team, so the only chance of that would be based on a horrible season or a horrible trade.

I can easily see Orton gone next year. I think it all depends on how the OL looks this season. If the OL looks like it's improved and on an upward trend, then I absolutely think we could be looking for another backup. Also, Romo has to stay relatively healthy. Next years draft is deep at QB IMO. Lots of pretty good prospects and it's not a done deal that we don't pick up another QB this year. Depends on who gets released.

Kyle Orton has not really looked all that great this offseason, so far and remember, in 2014, Orton's cap number jumps to 3.25 million. That's a lot of money for a backup.

Can't say for sure on the season. It could be horrible, hard to say at this point. I've felt like we might have a chance for a good season in the past and we end up 8-8. Hard to say with this team where that is concerned.

I think Bernadeau is a goner along with Free, Scandrick, and possibly even Livings. I think Miles Austin is a real possibility also if TW has a decent year. I personally would be shopping Ware for a load of draft picks but don't think Jerry will part with him. Spencer is probably gone also. I expect to see Lee, Carter, and Dez getting paydays next year or so and we're going to have to clear a lot of room.
Next offseason, S, OL, DL, and QB are the priorities...unless Johnson and Church turn into more than JAGs.

Yeah i've heard that if Johnny declares he'd go later than 10 but if he has a season similar to last year, I don't see that many teams passing on him. QB's almost always shoot up the board, so I can easily see him going early.

Could be wrong though...
