Cowboys playing like Super Bowl losers

What does the Cowboys' ascension to the top of the NFC really mean? They're No. 1 in a group of pretenders. Their substandard conference affiliation means an inflated regular-season record and, at best, a reserved spot on the sacrificial altar come Feb. 3.
Look at today's win over the Giants? This was supposed to a statement game, but it proves nothing. New York had one victory over a winning team this season, and that was over a Commanders team that is sliding into oblivion. The Giants have to stop a real offense just once before they are part of a serious contender conversation.
Dallas' playoff path to Super Bowl XLII will be paved with mediocrity. The Packers are a fluky 8-1. How many jump balls can Green Bay's WRs come down with? The Lions are 6-3 and will probably end up 8-8. The four teams in the NFC South are barely worth mentioning. And the NFC West is even worse.
The Cowboys haven't distinguished themselves in three games against the AFC this season. Throw out their win against the irrelevant Dolphins. Dallas was outplayed by Buffalo in that last-second Monday night win. And despite Terrell Owens' postgame claims, they didn't show me any reason to believe they could beat the Patriots in a rematch of their 48-27 loss in Week 6.
The ‘Boys are a very good team. Tony Romo is peforming up to his gaudy contract and celebrity girlfriend, T.O. is playing at a Hall of Fame level and the running game is solid. But Dallas is like Farmer Ted in Sixteen Candles ... the king of the geeks. A barracuda in a pool full of NFC guppies. Problem is, the Cowboys will face a great white shark if they reach the Super Bowl.
Everyone in Dallas should be proud of the upcoming trip to Glendale, Ariz., ... and the inevitable loss, followed by the offseason drama (probably Owens-related) and the 2008 Super Bowl loser's jinx collapse.

Another supposedly unbiased journalist predicts a collapse in Dallas while mentioning TO... LOL.

I also think that "NFC is inferior to AFC" stuff is crap.

This year, the NFC East is 7-2 versus the AFC.

The NFC North is 8-2 versus the AFC.

Part of me spits out the old cliche that you can only play who's on the schedule. And then wants to point out that Dallas was competitive with New England for almost 3 whole quarters.

But another part of me thinks he might not be that far off the mark.

I was thinking about this a lot earlier whilst awaiting the Cowboys game and being bored by Green Bay. The resolution I came to, atleast for this week, was this:

The NFC is on the whole is bad, the pundits are right there. They're also right that, on the whole, the AFC is better. And while I believe there is a gap between the Colts/Pats and the Cowboys/Pack, I believe that gap i lessening atleast in Dallas case. Furthermore, I think the Colts/Pats are at their ceiling, while Dallas has room to improve. Sure, it's a high ceiling, but those teams won't get better...and in fact will begin their decline at some point in the near future.

Dallas has just gotten a glimpse of what should be a decade plus more of their franchise QB. If, and it's a big if with GM Jerry, that QB can continue to be surrounded with talent and the team can continue to draft more Demarcus Ware's than Ebenezer Ekuban's, more Jason Wittens than Quincy Carters...then this team has a large window.

We may not be able to beat an Indy or a New England this year, although on any given sunday you just never know. But I believe Dallas, if our GM continues to act shrewdly and draft well, Dallas will improve and they can shrink that gap.

What the Patriots/Indy have over us is that playoff experience, especially their qb's that Romo doesn't. Until we win that 1st playoff game with Romo, who knows what this team can do. But this team is growing up with Romo performing at a high level in games under pressure. I just love how Romo never backs down to any situation on the field. No matter where the ball is, he thinks he can make a big play. So far, so good.

Well, it's already started. Who has Dallas beaten? So they beat a bad Giants team; so what?

This wasn't a statement game for Dallas. It was supposed to be a statement game, or a confirmation of greatness, for the Jints. It's really quite humorous to see these pundits twist in the wind after every Dallas victory.

Agreed.

I really, truly think we'd win in a matchup.

Will we get there? maybe not..

this is what the poster "wants" to happen...they were competitive without key starters against NE, and still had the moxie to survive 6 turnovers against Buffalo...anyway you slice it the Buffalo game still counts as a win...this blogger clearly displays the typical loser mentality when faced with trying to save face after a disheartening loss...the Giants simply are'nt in the Cowboys class right now...just like we were'nt in the Patriots class when we played them.

last week the Patriots showed that they are beatable with the right approach on offense and defense...Dallas still has upside for the remainder of the season...the defense still has'nt totally played together and Terry Glenn may yet make an appearance on offense...all you can do in Arizona is take your best shot and let the cards fall where they may.

That the NFC has less of a chance of winning does'nt mean that anyone of the teams in that conference would'nt relish at least a chance to bring home a championship...

The Lizard King didn't have much to say about the Cowboys. We play who we have on the schedule for the first season. After December we start playing who ever we have to. I don't know if we can beat either the Colts or Patsies this season but I would love to see us get a chance. You have to play the best to beat the best.

If we lose again to the Pats, it will be no consolation just to get to the Super Bowl. We're not that kind of town. If the writer meant that the NFC race is pointless in the long run, that's one thing. But to denigrate a team's victory one minute after the gun sounds is despicable.
