And he doesn't factor in for Dallas, either, unless you're saying you believe Dallas is suddenly going to go and lose every game the rest of the way because he's going in the top 5-8 picks and there is no way Dallas will be in that range and there is no way that they could move out of the mid to late 20's into the top 5 by giving up a 3rd rounder.

I'm pretty sure people would be more pissed if we traded for Crabtree in the first round than picking up RW.....

he offers nothing towards this season's Super Bowl run, would take an unclear amount of time to develop, isn't a guaranteed to develop into a good pro, and is WAY out of our draft pick range.

14-15 of those 37 names turned out to be legit NFL players. Roughly 40% of those guys lived up to their 1st round status.

That late #1 Dallas gave up sure looks good to me. Cowboys get a proven player with top ten tools and under 5 years of NFL experience. The 3rd and 6th were just fluff to get the thing done. The fact that Jerry still has a whole pile of picks makes this gamble worth the chips.

I still get a huge chuckle when I see Freddie Mitchell drafted ahead of Reggie Wayne.:laugh2:

The Eagles really messed that up. Was that 4th and 26 worth it???

Roy #11 at #7 overall a failure all in all in Detroit. But thats Millens MO in drafting bust WR's year after year after year after year.

New GM unloading wisely.

I heard the other day that since 2002 only 4 first round WR's have become Pro Bowlers.

And RW is one of them.

Oh, he's absolutely following the pattern of a "bust" wide receiver. I've got another complete "bust" at the position in mind, and the comparisons are frightening!

First 4 years in the league, Roy 11 had 3,650 yards. This other "bust" had slightly less at 3,307. Roy 11 had 28 touchdowns. This other "bust" had 30.

Roy 11 had a per reception average of 14.96 yards. This other "bust" had 14.90.

This other "bust?"

Terrell Owens.

All this talk of Roy vastly underperforming is really quite silly.

You really are one of the worst posters I've ever seen anywhere. I'm just going to have to put you on ignore cause I'm afraid my IQ points are going to start falling everytime I read your pathetic attempts at looking clever.

Interesting numbers. Pretty much identical numbers an TO had the benefit of having Jerry Rice be the #1 target for SF for his first couple of years while Roy has been the focus of the defenses in Detriot cause he was their #1.

*Shrugs* I'm sure in a couple of years, when Roy puts up really good numbers for us and makes a lot of plays, that a lot of these people will be around here trying to claim they knew all along Roy would do well they were just trying to be fair and mention the possible downsides.

nice post.

let's not forget that 49ers team went 47-23 through those 4 seasons (12-4, 13-3, 12-4, 4-12)

Hardly a Detroit Lions football team.

Anyone who thinks this is a bad deal just doesn't know squat about football.

The only criticism I see is JJ may have bet too much to win the pot. I thought he might hold out for less but he does say it went down to the last few seconds of time left. So probably Det wasn't going to deal for less and hope to resign him.

No way to ever really know without knowing the minds of the principles involved though so I'm not really critisizing JJ at all. He gets not just a proven WR but a Pro Bowl big, fast, and young WR with our first (which we would likely have used for a WR next year anyway) and a couple of picks. It's a great deal for all involved. We got our man and Det got some picks and neither got raped.

Good post and welcome.

More like Detroit failed on #7. Not RW's fault the Lions are horrible because of Millen's and others' ineptitude.
How do you get he is a bust?
