Gene Hackman, the versatile leading man renowned for his smoldering performance as hard-nosed New York City narc Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection, has died. He was 95.

The much-admired two-time Oscar winner, who played gritty and cantankerous characters with a virile, edgy intensity, and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In a statement to the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper, Adan Mendoza, the Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico, said: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.

I got to add Unforgiven to that list playing opposite Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman great movie

Dang, he was 95!?!? Didn't realize he was that old. That's a hell of a run.

"Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Really? That should definitely raise some eyebrows. When two people and a dog pass away under the same roof at the same time, something strange is going on. It’s one thing for a 95-year-old to pass naturally, but his wife and their dog too? That’s highly unusual. Even if there’s no immediate sign of foul play, this seems like something that warrants a deeper look like carbon monoxide poisoning, a gas leak, or something else entirely.

I doubt very much that it was any type of murder or anything. Probably an accidental gas or carbon monoxide leak.

a murder suicide would be foul play

so that leaves that out

Sheriff is frankly being gutless by not saying
"At this time it appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning but we must confirm that" but just to say no foul play is suspected is going to make even more speculation and sensation come. Maybe he wants his day in the sun and is holding back until he can get a big news conference. Like we saw too much of during the LA FIres

From the article:

Returning to Southern California, he took classes at the Pasadena Playhouse, where he met another actor hopeful, Dustin Hoffman; both were voted “least likely to succeed” by classmates.
Apparently, Hoffman and he were surrounded by clueless idiots at the time.

Rest in peace, Mr. and Mrs. Hackman.

They are already reporting that there isn't a sign of a gas or carbon monoxide leak. His wife was found in a different room with a prescription bottle. Possible that Gene passed and she overdosed on the prescription. Dog may have died for lack of water/food. Apparently nobody had seen them for two weeks.
