'Rados rein in wild win
By RON WHITE
SPECIAL TO THE STAR-TELEGRAM
ORLANDO, Fla.Behind a hot passing game, the Dallas Desperados roasted the same team that upset them in the National Conference championship game last summer.

Clint Dolezel threw seven touchdown passes against an Orlando defense missing both starting defensive ends, and Dallas turned two defensive stops and an interception return for a touchdown into a 70-49 victory Monday night at Hummer Field.

"We made some adjustments in the second half," said Dallas coach Will McClay, whose team sealed the win on Bobby Keyes' 30-yard interception return for a TD. "We got some turnovers and controlled the line of scrimmage. That was the difference."

Dolezel, who tossed 11 touchdown passes in last season's 87-62 regular-season road win in Orlando, connected on 24 of 29 passes for 220 yards, including five touchdown tosses to Will Pettis.

"Greg White not playing was big. Not seeing him is always nice," Dolezel said of Orlando's defensive end. "They had some injuries. We didn't see the full force of Orlando."

The Desperados, winners of 17 of their last 20 regular-season games, were matched by the Predators throughout a wild first half which included two onside kicks. Orlando (2-2) tied the game at 35-35 with less than 30 seconds left.

Dallas had the ball at its own 21-yard line with 18 seconds to play when a fan reached out of the front row near the goal line and interfered with Dolezel's pass to the right sideline.

After receiving a replay from the officials, the Desperados (4-0) converted on fourth down and tried a 36-yard field goal. The result of the kick, which went above the net and into the stands, was in doubt for more than 20 seconds before being ruled no good.

Dallas took a 42-35 lead on the first possession of the second half, when Dolezel threw his sixth touchdown pass. Javarus Dudley then caught a pass from Shane Stafford to make it 42-42, but Dallas answered with a score and led 49-42 at the end of the third quarter.

The Desperados then stopped the Predators and scored with 8:55 to play for a 14-point lead. Keyes picked off Stafford on Orlando's next possession, and Pettis -- who had 13 catches for 115 yards and a rushing touchdown -- scored on a kickoff return late in the game for his seventh TD.

Tater Salad is an amazing talent, as long as he has his cigars and Scotch. If he doesn't have those two things, he is just like Superman wearing Kryptonite pants.

The Desperados are one of four teams that are undefeated at this point in their season.
I actually watched this game last night, and it was rather entertaining!
Colston Weatherington(sp), remember him?, is one of the leagues premier DE/LB's. Pettis is a one man show, I think he had like seven touchdowns, maybe more..lol. I was surprised that I didnt see other washouts like Larrimore or Ross.
On a side note, does anyone know if the Predators head coach is Jon Grudens brother?
