Draft Shake Up To Benefit Dallas?

By Rafael Vela

Update: The Dolphins scouting honcho Jeff Ireland addressed the press this afternoon and gave a road map to the Dolphins’ draft plans, saying the team is not satisfied with its talent at offensive tackle, receiver, cornerback and nose tackle.

Those last three positions have lots of overlap with Dallas’ needs. Given that Miami and Dallas run very similar offensive and defensive schemes, it’s a good thing Dallas drafts a few spots ahead of Miami at the turn of each round.

Ireland also mentioned that Miami has received a couple of offers for the top pick but nothing yet that would make them move down. He also caused a minor stir when he mentioned the team needs to draft a player who could be “the pillar of our defense.”

Everybody is blowing smoke this time of year…
– The Chiefs are shopping DE Jared Allen to the Vikings and the Bucs. A move to either, but especially to ‘Tampa Bay, could affect the players Dallas has available with the 22nd pick.

Allen was franchised by Kansas City after he and the team failed to agree on a long-term extension. Were Minnesota or Tampa Bay to sign him to an offer sheet that the Chiefs failed to match, Kansas City would be due two first-round draft picks. It’s possible, however, that the Chiefs would take less, say, a first rounder and a third or fourth rounder.

The Bucs have been rumored to favor a wide receiver or a cornerback at pick 20. Were they to give up the pick to K.C., it might increase Dallas’ odds of seeing one of the top CBs drop to them.

Michael Smith said Jared Allen to the Vikings is pretty much a done deal for the Vikings 1st and possibly 3rd round picks.

That would give the Chiefs #5 and #17. My bet is they would hope for Matt Ryan at #5 and go LT at #17, then work on DE and CB the rest of their draft.

The locals are bracing themselves. They do not want a QB. The storm is brewing. Of course, they would rather just keep Allen and prepare for the #5. They don't trust Carl Peterson (GM) anymore and they think the Chefs will screw the whole thing up anyways.

Peterson is another of the massively overrated GM's by media slobs...ranks right up there IMO with alltime overrated GM Beathard and recently demoted GM Rich McKay

Kind of an off hand observation, does it seem like there are more teams, for whatever reason, that are in disarray right now?

I don't think they would use their 5th pick for Ryan. They have more pressing needs on both the offense and defensive lines. Plus I think they want give Croyle another shot as their qb.

Why would KC do this? Allen is a stud. That's a good deal for Minny.

If they ever get a QB, they'll be legitimate contenders in the NFC.

Watching the chiefs on hard knocks last year made me realize even more how much of a putz herm edwards is and wow Carl Peterson came off like a complete fool.

He had his hand in everything. I cant see them turning it around for a long time. Herm Edwards and his rah rah high school pep talks I dont believe can ever make them anything more than average.

I watched Croyle for 5 years at Bama. Big arm, but imo, he just doesn't have what it takes to be a winning, starting QB in the NFL.

He looked terrible for the most part last season. KC needs a QB, imo.

That is just plain stupid of KC. They have a ****ty defense, as is, and now they want to dump their one truly impact player on that side of the ball?

That is just moronic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Allen have serious character issues? Did he not miss two games last season due to team/league violations?

I wouldn't give KC jackweed for a guy they know is unreliable and unpredictable.
