Raiders: McAlister report `nonsense’

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

Friday, September 18th, 2009 at 10:46 am

Looks like Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area “NFL Insider” Jarrod Cooper is on the outside with his old team.

One day after coach Tom Cable said he knew nothing about the possibility of bringing aboard cornerback Chris McAlister, team spokesman John Herrera took it one step further by saying Cooper’s report on the transaction was “totally untrue” and “nonsense.”

Herrera took exception to Cooper’s criticism of Michael Huff and Stanford Routt and was critical of reporters for bringing up the rumor with potentially affected players in the locker room.

Looks like McAlister made a miscalculation if hoping to join the Raiders by floating the idea before having anything close to a deal in place.

It’s also a public vote of confidence for Huff, coming off his best game after playing more than 30 snaps as a deep safety on passing downs.

During the pre-practice window available to the media, there was no sign of Johnnie Lee Higgins _ meaning Hiram Eugene is the likely punt return specialist against the Chiefs.

Dude's knees are shot.

As much as he might want to play, there's not much need for a CB who can't run.
