Randel El clone?...

does that seem like a fair comparison to Reggie Mcneil? Or the latter a much better prospect at the QB spot? I have heard he is a great athlete and a better passer than Vick or Young were in college. Anyone on the board seen him play extensively?

Would be be worth a shot in the 3rd based purely on potential? Might he serve as a both our #5 WR as well as our number #3 QB?

Look foward to hearing from some college football fans who have seen him play.

As a QB he locks on to his #1 receiver and doest seem to want to find anyone else, has a cannon for an arm but can put too much on it at times, needs to work on his touch passing. After his Junior year in which he only threw 4 picks he seemed like he would blow up his Senior season, but played in an Option based attack, which doesn't suit him at all. What Reggie is is a very fast pocket QB, that can make things happen with his legs, but hes not really a running QB. Attitude and leadership were questioned after A&M's failure this past season.

He is one of the best athletes in the draft and I wouldn't mind seeing Dallas
spend a 3rd on him, but thats JMO and I know most people seem to think that would be a reach but if we had a few years to groom him I think he could be something special. However thats partly due to my maroon blood. HTH

Reggie is a speed burner, but his hips are very stiff. And he is slight of build and IMO would get mushed if he played receiver. As a QB he actually hits receivers in stride on crossing patterns and never had the luxury of throwing to wide open receivers.
His sr. yr. the best 3 receivers on A&M's team got injured early leaving Reggie to throw to 4th 5th and 6th string guys. The line was bad most of the season.

He does not throw lolly pop passes down field and let the receivers out jump the defenders to complete passes as one highly rated QB does. He actually has great deep "touch" as proven in the East West Shrine game(MVP).

Croyle and Whitehurst won't be as good as RM. Their "teams" were substantially better than what surounded Reggie. I would like him in the 3rd as a QB.

1. Somewhat inconsistent
2. Good use of legs
3. Accuracy somewhat inconsistent
4. At times looks like the best QB ever(very few mistakes)

Randle El was a good fit for the Steelers as was Kordell Stewart. The Steelers use a system that allows them to make college QB's into good receivers. I wouldn't expect Randle El to do to much wearing any other uniform. Where is Stewart now?

If you want the next Randle El, I would go with Marques Hagans or Brad Smith.

McNeil will be a QB.

Randel El started the transition from QB to receiver and punt returner while in college. He split time his senior season. McNeil hasn't. For a 3rd round pick, I wold rather have a guy who has a better chance of actually getting playing time this season. It will take a couple of years for McNeil to be ready. Now if we are talking second day pick, I would be fine with it. That is why I like Brad Smith in the late rounds. Not as straight line fast as McNeil, but a very fluid athlete.

He'll get a shot at QB, unlike Randel El. He also doesn't have nearly the lateral movement that Randel El has.

he's very similar to Quincy Carter. McNeal could play QB in Canada but he won't make it in the NFL. He has a strong arm, but not accurate with any set of throws. He is faster and better athlete than QC but he's not a classic running QB either. He doesn't read defenses very well and throws a ball up for grabs way too often. There's really not anything that McNeal does well. His natural abilities allowed him to excel in college but even there he was horribly inconsistent. He doesn't have the game to take it to the next level. Perhaps he could transition to WR but I would bet that he'll insist on playing QB, at which he'll get buried on someone's roster at #3 and rot there. He has a lot more potential to become a player at WR but who knows if he'll consider it.
Brad Smith is the same way. Smith is an electrifying runner although a long strider. Terrific size, build, and strength to make the transition to WR but has gone on record as saying that "he wants to be drafted as a QB, after that he doesn't care if he gets moved to WR."
I believe that McNeal is 6'2 and Smith is 6'4. I think Smith has more potential to make the transition better than McNeal. Plus, there's a decent chance that Smith lasts until the 6th or 7th rounds, or might even go undrafted.
