James Hanna. I feel like this guy has a ton of potential in the passing game. 24 years old, 6-4 250, 4.49-40 time. Better blocker that Gavin last year and faster. Not putting Escobar down, but I always though Hannah would break-out as a real passing threat, ala Gronk . Not sure why he hasn’t been more involved in the passing game, but I really don’t want to see him being looked over because we spent a 2nd on Escobar last year. I think he can be very good and would love to see more from him this year. Very underrated, IMO.

Jakar Hamilton. Does this guy have a chance this year? I suppose we’re penciling in Wilcox & Church as the starters, but curious if Hamilton can make a push.

Broaddus said Hamilton was one of the standout players in the OTAs.

It was really weird how they used Hanna last season. He was primarily a blocker that would occasionally run some short pass patterns. They didn't really give him opportunities to use his speed to create a mismatch. He was good a knowing the blocking assignments, but struggled at times making the blocks because he is not the biggest of TEs.

I agree. Weird is the word that best described how we used Hanna. We seem to make a habit out of strange offense.

I agree. I do think technique with the new TE coach may help, not sure though. However, I would really want to put Hanna in the slot just off the line and try to create a mismatch with a LB from time to time. I also think he could be a guy you want going down the middle of the field just beyond the LBs, but not as deep as a Free Safety. I think if you use Witten to clear the SS out of the way and your WRs are running their routes outside but just enough to engage the FS you may find Hanna for large gains from time to time.

My thoughts and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.

I'll be honest I don't know anything about Jakar Hamilton. Because of that I would say he doesn't have much of a chance until he gets known to even the worst of fans. But hey...best of luck. We need players. Period. Full Stop.

I'm a big fan of Hanna, as well; especially on Madden played as a Fb. I get that this ain't Madden, but still it's nice if your Rb doesn't have to slow up too much to allow the lead-blocker to get a seal on the edge.

It's not weird, the TEs barely runs seem routes anymore. It doesn't matter who it is.

Hopefully this changes with the new OC.

And Broaddus tweeted that so far Wilcox hasn't been better than the others.

Hanna might be another player we have that for whatever reason the coaching staff has just turned away from. Physically he has all the tools frankly to be another Gronkowski.
Hands seem good enough; seems to have the mental part down and so on. Just weird.

maybe because he is not a good route runner and has straight ahead speed and iffy hands. unless you think its a good idea just have him run go routes.... you thought he was going to be another gronk!!!! seriously...what gave you that impression? oh yeah, the 4.49 speed. his actually ability as a TE be damned.

The Gronk comparison seems a bit iffy, but surely think we could get more out of him as a weapon than we do.

Not utilizing Hanna's speed as a TE is one of JG's greatest flaws as an OC.

A 12 package with Hanna and Esco, Dez and Williams on the outside, would give teams absolute fits. There is no way you can match up with all of that. I don't care if they can't block Winnie the Pooh.

granted hanna can run routes. great straight ahead speed doesn't translate to good route running, unless you want to run him on a go route all the time. hanna needs work on his route running, as he doesn't separate well. compare that to witten and his 4.8 speed and how he finds ways to get open all the time.

Even at the end of his rookie year, it appeared he could only run seam routes and beat anyone with speed. That lack of route experience is a good reason he went as late as he did in the draft.

Can you imagine both Hanna and Escobar lining up as receivers, with Bryant and T-Will on the outside? Fuhgeddaboutit.
