Some random thoughts....

I can't get out of my mind a goal line play last year against the Eagles in which guard Artis Hicks manhandles Leo Carson tossing him aside and allowing the Eagles running back a huge lane to walk through for the easy TD.... If Carson makes it I hope he can hold his ground at the line of scrimmage. I'm tired of our interior defensive linemen getting pushed around. I want to see better line play.

Is it me or does Jacob Rogers already seem prone to being called for holding...

I can't believe we haven't been more aggressive in finding a decent free safety... I want to see Roy playing up close to the line making plays...

From observing camp pictures: Flozell looks much slimmer this year, Ware seems to have more bulk and muscle than expected, Peterman appears to have slimmed down, Glover and Rogers have definitely bulked up, Newman looks skinny.

First Carson i think is either a 3team DT, or a 3rd team DE so i doubt you will see him much.

2 not sure of what your talking about but i ahve heard reports of him doing good, maybe you read something i didnt

3 what FS is out there, what FS was out there that we could have signed without using more money.

and i agree with that hopefully that means they will do better than last year.

#1 I think it's questionable that Carson even makes the squad... and if he does he ain't startin.
#2 Roger's has only played a little as an offensive lineman since he was drafted... I think it's a tad early to call him a "holding machine".
#3 What "great" FS is/was available out there? The truth is this team had so many holes they all couldn't be filled in one offseason. This isn't a SB contender.

I don't think you can write many teams off in this era.

Would a lot of things have to fall the right way? Sure. But think of all the things that went right in 2003. If it goes that this year, I would give this team a legitimate shot, because our talent level is much higher now than it was.

My realistic expectation is 9 wins. But 11 would not shock me. On the other hand, 7 would shock me.

Carson is only playing with the first team in nickle situations right now. I don't think he will be in on goal line situations this year. Now we have Ferguson.

I agree with the others, not many good free safeties out there.

hate to tell you guys....our average weight is the same as last year! i know that is because of us adding ware and taking away wiley but....it is still way below all the other 3-4 teams of last year...here are last years numbers

The average height of the Cowboys starting front seven is 73.42” (6’1 ½”) and the average weight is 263 pounds.

The starting front seven ranks 31st in height (Tampa Bay is the shortest team) and tied for 29th in weight.

The average starting front seven in the NFL (sans the Cowboys) is 74.79” tall (almost 6’3”) and weighs an average of 269.61 pounds.

The best 3-4 scheme defenses (Baltimore, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and New England) average height was the same as the NFL average height (74.79") The average weight of these team's front sevens was 272.25lbs.

HERE ARE OUR NUMBERS AS OF NOW..:

263 AVERAGE WEIGHT.....6'2 6/7 HEIGHT...SO OUR AVG HEIGHT AND WEIGHT ARE THE SAME AS LAST YEAR!

3-4 AVG LAST YEAR WAS 272.25! WE HAVE TO BE THE SMALLEST 3-4 FRONT 7 IN THE LEAGUE...AND WE ARE COUNTING ON ROOKIES MOSTLY! THIS COULD SPELL TROUBLE EARLY......

6 2 239 burnett 74
6 6 271 ellis 78
6 2 245 james 74
5 11 238 nguyen 71
6 4 295 spears 76
6 4 251 ware 76
6 3 305 ferguson 75

74 6/7

7 524

263

7 - 1844

You can subtract Ellis from the equasion I don't see him starting after the 3rd game. I'm sorry, we are beefier up front and I don't see Ferg Canty or Spears being man handled by anyone.

When you determine weight of front seven palyers you have to include all of the players that will rotate in during a game. I think Bill will be doing a lot of substitutions to keep guys fresh. Canty has experience in the 3-4 and Coleman should get a lot of action. Those are two big guys.
