Randy Gregory and Ben Gardner have looked very impressive thus far

Gregory was held twice in the SF game or might have had 3 sacks...Gardner was actually tackled on one play..no penalty of course...Love their hustle.

This defense could be fun to watch this year.

It was nice to see Gardner show up. It had appeared to me before the San Francisco game that the rookie Russell was ahead of him. Now, those two are going to make it difficult to decide who to keep.

Right now, I've got us going with five ends Mincey, Lawrence, Gregory, Russell and Gardner ... and I think all five might be able to really contribute to the pass rush until Hardy gets back. But we'll see if they can build on what they've been doing.

I thought Russel had a leg up on Gardner. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. I don't think either will make it through waivers for practice squad.

Wonder why no one ever says, "I hate to be an optimist?"

Me neither.

Perpetual optimists and perpetual pessimists are two-dimensional...ultimately boring and artificial. In both cases their agenda over-rides everything...and deems their opinion to be worthless.

The perpetual pessimist is usually bitter, angry and needs to make himself feel better by tearing others down. The perpetual optimist is either trying to sell something...or just sell himself on a fiction that will help him get through the day.

The only meaningful people in the world are those capable and honest enough to see reality...and respond to reality. No agenda. No filters. No BS.

Lawrence hardy Gregory Russell Gardner mincey
Both crawfords bishop and Coleman

I think you need another big body in there.........

So when Hardy is back:

DE - Hardy, Lawrence, Gregory, Mincey, J. Crawford, Russell or Gardner

DT - Hayden, T. Crawford, Bishop, Coleman

J. Crawford is the swing guy, playing inside in a pinch.

On pass rushing situations, Mincey and Hardy go inside, Lawrence, Gregory on the outside.

Optimism and pessimism are two sides of a single coin. Perpetural pessimists and optimists exists on opposite sides from each other. One must share an equal portion of both optimism and pessimism to balance the other and control bias. Those who successfully bring both into equilibrium are the best judges of perception.

I would have no problem letting mincey go once hardy came back.....not sure why so many on here love him so much. To me anyone who starts at de on the week side should be able to get you 7+ sacks for the year...he is nothing special and there was a reason why we signed hardy and drafted two defensive ends

I think Mincey was playing out of position because we needed him to play a certain spot last year.

He's probably a strongside DE at this point. He's not great by any stretch but he's adequate. He also has position flexibility that gives him value. I have no problems with Mincey on the team. None.

Also he can play DT on pass plays

I hate to be a pessimist but nobody looks good until that first game against the Giants.

That's not true. You can say that preseason doesn't necessarily translate to the regular season. But one can look good or look poorly in the preseason and camp. These are what this time of the year is for....evaluation.

Lighten up.

Just from what I'm reading it seems like Gardner might normally be the man on the outside looking in. I'm thinking Hardy's suspension probably makes keeping him work. Right now on the dline I'd guess DE for week one being Mincey, Lawrence, Gregory, Russell with DT as the Crawford boys as well as Hayden and Coleman(assuming the team thinks he can maintain his level of play). Gardner I could see making it onto the roster but not being active possibly because of Hardy. I don't think we drop a 5th round pick in his first year and I don't see us ditching any of the guys above Russell because they're better then Gardner right now.

Preseason team results don't matter on a team scale. Preseason individual results definitely do matter.

Yeah, but isn't it great to have so many good DL that you have to think about trading or cutting one !!!! How long has it been since Dallas had to do that?
