If Gardner is playing with or out playing Mincey I could see cutting him because if players are roughly equal then you should always let age decide. Mincey was the best DE last year in a large part because we had very little mature talent at DE. This year, after Hardy is back, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Mincey as the 4th DE on the roster, or 5th if we have 5 at that point. We have so much more talent right now then we have had in the front seven since at least 2007 I'd say.

Why are you talking about Gardner? He has not done anything. It's not "close" between him and Mincey.

What have you done in life? what contribution have you made other than insulting people on the internet?

Not saying much......also, he was our only healthy one.

It doesn't say much but it does say this team is in a much better position having him as a potential backup than as starter. Say what you want about him as a starter but as a backup that's a quality defensive end.

Gardner is balling out there looks like the player before the injury his senior season at Stanford, has a real Good motor and just hustles out there. Swaim has been impressive but I gotta say he's got the tight end look but could still add some weight to his frame of course the one that looks like a receiver is Hanna but you forget that when he blocks.

Which of the guys do you think we could speak to the practice squad? I highly doubt Gardner would survive the waivers, Swaim..... maybe

From the film I saw of Gardner at Stanford he played all over the line and was dominant. I just think he could be a guy that comes off the bench and make some plays, a energy guy.

Gregory was held twice in the SF game or might have had 3 sacks...Gardner was actually tackled on one play..no penalty of course...Love their hustle.

This defense could be fun to watch this year.

Lane just wanted to say you started one of the best threads on this board in a while. Great job

Dallas got their 1st Super Bowl win of the 90's after they got Charles Haley. I feel this may be our turning point as well.

we may have 2x Charles Haley's on the roster right now....Hardy plus DLaw/RGreg. I'm liking what I'm reading about the rookie Russell also, I really had no idea about him when we drafted him.
Our LB corps could really be good this year also....loving the rookie, Lee back, McClain, Hitchens....looking strong.

This is a Cowboys message board. We discuss what players have or have not done.

Who did I insult?

The fact is that Mincey was one of the Cowboys top 5 defensive players last year.

The fact is that Gardner has yet to do anything significant in a preseason game. He has been outplayed by the other DLinemen, even bottom of the roster guys like Lavar Edwards.

Are you watching Gardner at training camp? He has not really been "balling" in the 2 preseason games.

Lane you and I have talked and I know you go way back as I do watching the Cowboys. I think this may be the best defense they have had since the 90's. Standouts like Gregory, Hardy, Lawrence, and other players like Gardner and Coleman ready to step up and make big plays. I remember when the Cowboys got Randy White and I was all happy and he helped lead another great defense for the Cowboys with Martin and Jones. Bob Lilly led the 1st great Dallas defense. Now is the time for another great Dallas defense. What do you say ? :starspin:

This D could be special if our ILB Ro Mc is committed to busting his arse allyear

I get what your saying .... but being outplayed by Mincy, Lawrence, Hardy, Gregory, and Crawford should be expected. You and I have both raved about the abilities of both Coleman and Bishop so I'm not surprised at that either. So in my eyes his only expected competition is J. Crawford, Ryan Russsell, and Edwards. I don't have the all 22 film so I can't really review that but I've seen good things from him. He has a terriffic motor and has good power. He isn't exceptionally fast but you get all of his speed all of the time. Everyone talks about Hayden's effort as the prime reason he is still here well Gardner's motor is just as good and he is a better player. I'm not convinced Edwards has outplayed Gardner either. My belief is that Edwards is the PS candidate. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys go 10 deep on the line and I expect a minimum of 9 so in my mind that list is:

DE: Lawrence, Mincy, Gregory, Hardy, Gardner
DT: Crawford, Crawford, Coleman, Bishop, Russell

I don't think they are in love with McClains injuries and remember that Edwards isn't a 2nd year player. He's been in the league 4-5 years. He should be much better than Gardner.

Don't forget about Wilson are 4th round pick at LB. Wilson looks strong in pre-season.
