Marinelli was on him constantly to get off the ball, its still impressive on how fast he turns the corner even when he is late off the snap.

He is a complete pass rusher for sure. Probably the most sound pass rusher technique wise from this class. Actually probably the top pass rusher overall in this class. If he can get to 245-250 and not lose any speed he has All-Pro upside.

As far as his run defense, it wasn't very good his senior year. Teams would run right at him and thats where his size hurt. He didn't have the strength to hold the edge AND disengage consistently. Thats why the weight is needed. Right now thats the only question mark about his future. Will he be an every down DE, or a only a pass rush nightmare. If he can even become an average run defender, he could be the best player taken from this class. I have zero doubt he becomes a 10+ sack player.

I watched all the draftbreakdown stuff and I do not agree that MSU or those other teams ran right at him and had a lot of success. It's not like looking at the Malcom Brown tape. In fact he sheds blocks better than any prospect I have seen recently.

I think that Gregory will have a better time against smith then Lawrence because Gregory is a better pass rusher then Lawrence was in college. I think that it will be a good challenge for smith this year because last year the ends that he had to face in training camp were not that good.

I think Smith will slap him around early in camp like he pretty much does with any end he faces. Gregory will win a couple of battles, but that's about it. This is not a bad thing because Gregory can learn what to do in his failures against Smith to beat other tackles.

just get these kids learning and getting them ready for going from boys to men of the NFL. as excited as we are, christmas has come and been really really nice to us. But some presents wont be ready to go from the gate. And everyday Gregory is learning we are molding him and yanking the beast from hibernation to be unleashed.

It was a sweet Christmas haul.

This man is going to be something else, weight be damned. Sure, in general weight does matter when facing 300lbs+ OL in the NFL. But if you're as good as Gregory is at using the relatively little weight that he does have, why mess with something that works?

Obviously it's still too early to tell if Gregory will be able to make an impact at his current weight (245-ish I think?) or if he'll have to bulk up 10 more pounds to be able to compete with starting NFL linemen... but from what I understand, he's definitely not your average 245-pound defensive end in the amount of strength he possesses relative to his bulk. It seems that he plays with the strength of a DE that's 20+ pounds heaver than he, and very rarely is overpowered by opponents that are quite a bit bigger.

Now assuming that Gregory can handle his own in the NFL at his current weight, there's also the possibility that having to constantly overcompensate for lack of size could burn him out quicker, causing him to fade deeper into the season. On the other hand, putting on 10-15 pounds could have a negative effect on him, making him lose a step and tire out from lugging around more weight than he's used to.

Whatever, I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to worry about this kind of stuff. :)

Its not that Gregory will have his hands full during training camp. I think its Smith is going to have his hands full as well. He'll have to deal with Gregory, Hardy and Lawrence. Thats the type of battles I'd like to see in the trenches.....

Tomorrow he's Cut-berry

Dallas will need camp bodies for July and August.
However, the odds are highly stacked against Fortenberry making the squad. If Fortenberry cannot get off the snap better than that, then I don't want him protecting Romo.

I can not wait to see what Gregory does against smith. then we can judge how good he can be.

Gregory will need to learn more pass rush moves but I am sure that he will as the off season and training progresses.

He has the quick twitch and burst to be sure and is natural with his bend, if he can add some weight and expand his repertoire of pass rush moves, he can be a freak!

Lol I. Not that excited about this considering Lawrence last year...

Yeah keep him away from Smith. We don' t want Smith to toss him around like a rag doll and do what he did to Lawrence last year.

remember they are not in pads- sometimes these early padless scrimmages are misleading.

LOL he already has more pass rush moves than D. Ware going into his rookie season. From what I heard he has a tremendous swim move and uses his hands to get off the blocks quickly. D. Ware had to learn that early in his career.

The problem is he needs to get off the ball quicker. But he can learn that during camp. Still, he was able to beat his man despite not get off the ball quickly. Once he gets that down, he will be passrushing beast to contend with.

He is still going to need more moves when he is dealing with Tyron, he does have good hands but in training camp live on dc.com they were showing him on pass rush drills, he was late of the ball a few times but ultimately he needs to learn more actual moves as he goes forward.

He certainly has a few but you will note that I state he will indeed learn more as he goes forward.

The quick twitch and burst is there, in addition to the speed, they will get him straight on getting off the line and certainly will teach him more moves.

When the vets are assembled, he will also learn from Hardy as well, I am not worried about his on the field development at this point, just fun to see where he is as we begin his transformation in size and skill.

By listening to Gregory today on the news, it was clear by his praise that he's taking in every word coming out of Marinelli's mouth, whether it's encouragement or constructive criticism. That's really going to serve him well. Rod Marinelli knows just what buttons to push to glean the best results from someone like Gregory. Gregory already sounds like he looks upon Marinelli like a father figure. Believe me, this bodes very well for him & the C'boys.
